Like the Harrier, the Safari is also available with a 2.0-litre diesel engine only. It makes 170PS and 350Nm paired to a 6-speed manual transmission as well as a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. Tata Safari is currently available with a 2WD option only. However, Tata is open to introducing a 4WD option of Safari if demand arises.
No, the Safari doesn’t feel underpowered. The 2.0-litre engine offers good torque low in the range making getting off the line effortless which is a good thing in the city traffic. On the highway, the engine is powerful enough for effortless cruising and overtakes.
The Safari is powered by a 4-cylinder 2.0-litre diesel engine.
Tata has not yet revealed fuel economy figures of the 2021 Safari.
Safari’s 2.0-litre diesel engine is good for long drives. It is responsive and is quick in building speeds and keeping the momentum. While the manual transmission is good it can be tiring due to its heavy clutch and long gear throws. The automatic transmission feels like a better option with seamless and quick shifts.
