Auto Expo 2018: Next- Gen Maruti Suzuki Swift Launched At INR 4.99 Lakh (ex-showroom)

Maruti Suzuki has launched the much awaited 2018 Swift at the ongoing Auto Expo. The hatchback has been launched in both Petrol and Diesel variants as well as with AMT in both the versions. The price for the manual petrol variant starts from Rs 4.99 lakh and goes upto Rs 7.29 lakh for the top variant while the manual diesel variants are priced between Rs 5.99 lakh for the base and Rs 8.29 lakh for the top model, all prices ex-showroom, Delhi. On the other hand the AMT petrol variants are priced at Rs 6.34 lakh and Rs 6.96 lakh as well as the AMT diesel variants are priced at Rs 7.34 lakh and Rs 7.96 lakh, all prices ex-showroom, Delhi.


Under the hood, the newly launched Maruti Swift gets the same 1.2-litre and 1.3-litre petrol and diesel engines as the outgoing model. While the manual transmission remain the same for the both the engines in the form of a standard 5-speed gearbox, a 5-speed AMT (automated-manual transmission) has been introduced this time with the next-gen Swift.


The third generation Swift is based on the Suzuki’s newest Heartect platform that also underpins the Baleno, Ignis, and the compact sedan sibling of Swift, the Dzire. The platform has led the 2018 Swift shed 85kg of weight as compared to its predecessor. In terms of dimension, the newly launched Swift is 3840mm long that is 10mm shorter than the second-gen swift, 1,735mm wide making it 40mm wider than before and gets a 20mm longer wheelbase of 2,450mm while the height at 1,530mm remains unchanged. Also, the boot space now stands at 268 litres instead of 210 litres of the outgoing model while the fuel tank capacity is now 37 litres as compared to the previous 42 litres.


The noticeable design elements at the exterior include the sloping roof line giving it a coupe-like profile. The C-pillar gets a black covering which gives a floating roof design like the Hyundai i20 while the rear door handles have been repositioned on the rear windows.Talking about the features, the 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift comes loaded with auto LED projector headlamps with daytime running LEDs, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as tail lamps with LED brake lights, among others at the new top-end variant Z+ while L, V and Z are the other variants available with both petrol and diesel engine options. The safety features include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, and IsoFix child seat anchors as standard. All these advanced safety features were optional with the second-gen Swift.

The automaker had started the advanced bookings for 2018 Swift with a token amount of Rs 11,000 in January and has received over 40 thousand bookings for the premium hatchback. Unveiled at 2017 Geneva International Motor Show the new Swift is already available in the international market. The hatch continues to take against the rivals such as the Ford Figo and the Hyundai Grand i10 in the Indian and International markets.
