New generation Jeep Wrangler to launch in India this year
The Jeep Wrangler is an iconic SUV from the house of the famous American SUV manufacturer that has a military history and best loved for its tough and rugged traditional looks and of course Jeep’s patent hard-core off-roading abilities. The outgoing model of the famed Jeep Wrangler is already available for sale in India and has a starting range of Rs. 60 lakhs. The Wrangler is offered powered by a choice of a 3.6 liter V6 petrol and a 2.8 liter 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine in the car market of India. The new generation Wrangler has got engine and transmission updates, and these updates are expected to be introduced in India as well.
In fact, the same global version of the all new Jeep Wrangler is expected to be launching in the Indian market, as Jeep India will bringing the new-gen Wrangler in India through the CBU (completely built unit) route, in all probabilities. Hence, the fully imported Wrangler will be coming with most of its international updates to the Indian market, or so it can be expected. When the exterior design changes are concerned, the new-gen Wrangler gets a number of subtle styling changes, which offer an enhanced visual appeal, but retains the legendary macho and hard-core off-roader styling language of the original Wrangler.
When the under the hood specifications are concerned, the all new Wrangler could be offered in the car market of India powered by a 2 liter turbocharged petrol engine that can generate 270 Bhp and 400 Nm, and a 2.2 liter turbocharged diesel motor offering 197 Bhp and 450 Nm. Transmission duty could be handled by an 8-speed automatic gearbox, while AWD system will be obviously standard.
The Jeep Wrangler is available in 3-door short-wheelbase and 5-door long-wheelbase versions in the US, but only the long-wheelbase high-end model is expected in India. The long-wheelbase version is a 5-seater model and is more versatile among the two and is a better choice for the Indian market, which prefers more space in SUVs. The Wrangler aficionados in India will certainly hope that the model’s price tag will drop a bit. However, a price drop cannot be expected, as the Wrangler will continue to remain a fully imported model, until Jeep India decides to localize the SUV icon in India.
