It is available with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT type automatic transmission. The Maruti Suzuki Dzire petrol manual has a fuel-efficiency of 23.26kmpl while the automatic claims to return a figure of 24.12kmpl.

    Petrol Manual Engine Review

    • The Dzire has a more powerful engine than the Baleno.
    • The Baleno and the Dzire have identical torque output.
    • The Dzire hybrid petrol manual is more fuel-efficient than the Baleno manual.

If you want better fuel efficiency, then the Dzire should be an easy choice. It offers the hybrid engine in all variants and without any price premium. The Baleno has the option of a hybrid engine but you have to pay almost Rs. 90,000 for this “luxury”. You can’t recover this higher cost with better fuel efficiency.

For the automatic, the Baleno’s CVT is better than the Dzire’s AMT. But again, if you want more mileage, then go with the Dzire as it gets the hybrid engine.

Is the Maruti Suzuki Baleno better than the Maruti Suzuki Dzire?

Price of the base variant of Maruti Suzuki Baleno is Rs. 5.64 lakh and Maruti Suzuki Dzire is Rs. 5.89 lakh (both ex-showroom). The higher variants of the Baleno are more expensive as they get an overpriced hybrid engine option for about another Rs. 90,000.

The two cars have very similar dimensions with the difference being only a few units, give or take.

For petrol manual powertrain, both Baleno and Dzire are on par if you consider the hybrid engine. But this engine option is almost Rs. 90,000 more expensive in case of the Baleno. So, if you're looking for a car with lower fuel costs then Dzire should be an easy pick for you as it gets this engine as standard.

As far as petrol automatic powertrain is concerned, the Dzire is more powerful and more fuel-efficient too as it gets the hybrid engine. For better refinement though, the Baleno will be better as it gets smoother CVT automatic transmission. For lower fuel costs, again the Dzire hybrid is an easy choice with the automatic transmission as well.
