For the petrol automatic powertrain, Tata Nexon prices start from Rs. 8.45 lakh. Tata Nexon automatic is Rs. 60,000 more expensive than manual. Honda Amaze starts at Rs. 7.72 lakh. Honda Amaze automatic is Rs. 83,000 - 90,000 more expensive than manual. This is a fair bit more than the Nexon’s automatic transmission, which adds only Rs. 60,000 to the asking price. However, it’s worth noting that the Amaze uses a CVT type automatic while the Nexon gets a cheaper AMT. With that in mind, it’s easy to see that the Amaze CVT is underpriced by up to 20% while the Nexon automatic is overpriced by a similar margin.

The price advantage expands in favour of the Amaze when you compare the Nexo’s diesel automatic with the Amaze’s diesel auto variants. Although, you lose some performance when you choose the amaze diesel automatic.

Diesel Engine Review

  • The Nexon has a more powerful engine than the Amaze.
  • The Nexons engine produces way more torque than the Amazes and has a better torque-to-weight ratio too.
  • While the Amaze diesel’s torque-to-weight ratio is lower than the Nexon’s, it’s still comparable with the manual transmission. With the automatic, the Amaze diesel’s torque-to-weight ratio drops drastically to 150Nm/tonne. Expect modest performance from this combination
  • The Amaze 1.5 L diesel manual is more fuel-efficient than the Nexon manual.
  • But, the Nexon diesel and Amaze diesel are equally efficient with their respective automatic transmissions. This is another pitfall of the Amaze automatic. Besides the 20% drop in power and torque output, it also suffers from a 15% drop in mileage figure.
  • So, the Nexon diesel automatic not only offers far better performance, it does so while delivering similar mileage as the Amaze diesel automatic, although with a cheaper AMT type automatic.

As far as diesel powertrain is concerned, Nexons engine offers more torque, so it will offer better drivability compared to Amazes engine. The Amaze manual is more fuel-efficient than the Nexon diesel manual. But, with the automatic, the two cars have similar mileage figures. It’s a commendable achievement for the Nexon as it matches the Amaze’s figures while delivering a far better torque output and hauling a much heavier kerb weight.
