Hyundai Nios 2020 Petrol vs Competition

Although the Renault Kwid is long enough to be in the B1 segment, we’re not comparing it here because of its price and engine performance, which are comparable with A segment cars.

Hyundai Nios prices start from Rs. 5.05 lakh (ex-showroom) and it rivals the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Tata Tiago, Maruti Suzuki Ignis and Datsun GO in the segment. The complete price list of the petrol-powered Nios is as follows.

Hyundai Nios is 3805mm long, 1680mm wide, 1520mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2450mm. A wider body normally results in better shoulder room and a higher roof makes ingress & egress easier. A longer wheelbase usually results in more cabin space. It has a boot space of 260 litres. A larger boot allows you to carry more luggage. Nios has a 165mm ground clearance, it rides on 175/60 R15 tyres size and has 37 litres fuel tank capacity.

    • Maruti Suzuki Swift is the longest car in the segment. It is 35mm longer than Nios.
    • Maruti Suzuki Swift is the widest car in the segment. It is 55mm wider than Nios.
    • Maruti Suzuki Ignis is the tallest car in the segment. It is 75mm taller than Nios.
    • Hyundai Grand i10 Nios has a wheelbase of 2450mm, it is the longest wheelbase in the segment and same as the Swift and Datsun GO.
    • Maruti Suzuki Swift has the biggest boot space in the segment but it’s only 8 litres larger than the Nios’.
    • Maruti Suzuki Ignis and Datsun Go’s ground clearance of 180mm is the best in class and significantly better than the other cars in the segment

Amongst all the B1 segment cars, Maruti Suzuki Ignis and Datsun Go have the highest ground clearance, so they should be the last ones to bottom-out on uneven roads. Maruti Suzuki Swift has the biggest boot in the segment, but the Go, Nios and Ignis are also not that far behind. The Ignis is the only car in the B1 segment to offer 15-inch wheels in all variants as standard. Its base variant tyre size is wider than the tyre sizes of the lower variants of the Swift and Grand i10 Nios. The Ignis and the Datsun GO are the only two cars to offer SUV-like ground clearance of 180mm.
