Although the Renault Kwid is longer than the Ignis and qualifies to be in B1 segment, we’re including it in this comparison due to its lower price tag, narrower body and lower engine performance, which is comparable with A segment cars.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R prices start from Rs. 4.46 lakh (ex-showroom) and it rivals the Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Hyundai Santro, Renault Kwid, Maruti Suzuki S-Presso, Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 and Datsun redi-GO in the segment. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is 3655mm long, 1620mm wide, 1675mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2435mm. A wider body normally results in better shoulder room and a higher roof makes ingress & egress easier. A longer wheelbase usually results in more cabin space. It has a boot space of 341 litre. A larger boot allows you to carry more luggage. Wagon R has an acceptable ground clearance of 165mm, it rides on 165/70 R14 tyres size and has 32 litres fuel tank capacity, which is smaller than even the Alto 800.

  • Renault Kwid is the longest car in the segment. It is 76mm longer than Wagon R and enough to rival B1 segment cars like the Ignis, Tiago, etc.
  • Hyundai Santro is the widest car in the segment. It is 25mm wider than Wagon R.
  • Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has a height of 1675mm, it is exceptionally tall among all A segment cars, which also include some crossovers like S-Presso, Kwid and Redi-Go.
  • Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has a wheelbase of 2435mm, it is the longest wheelbase in the segment. It’s only a little bit longer than the Kwid’s and Celerio’s wheelbase.
  • Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has a boot space of 341-lt, it is the biggest boot space in the segment.
  • Datsun redi-GO's ground clearance of 187mm is the best in the segment.
  • While all cars get 14-inch wheels at least in their higher variants, Alto 800 remains the only car that has the smallest 12-inch wheels. Its tyre size is also the narrowest in this class of entry-level cars.

Amongst all the A segment cars, Datsun redi-GO has the highest ground clearance, so it should be the last car to bottom-out on uneven roads. S-Presso and Kwid also have respectable ground clearance. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has the biggest boot in the segment, so it can carry maximum luggage. It’s tall boy design means that it has the best road presence as well.
