Although the Renault Kwid is longer than the Ignis and qualifies to be in B1 segment, we’re including it in this comparison due to its lower price tag, narrower body and lower engine performance, which is comparable with A segment cars.
Renault Kwid’s prices start from Rs. 2.92 lakh (ex-showroom) and it rivals the Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Hyundai Santro, Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, Maruti Suzuki S-Presso, Maruti Suzuki Alto and Datsun redi-GO in the A segment. The complete price list of the petrol-powered Kwid is as follows.

Renault Kwid is available with 2 petrol engine options - a 0.8-litre and a1.0L. Both are available with a 5-speed transmission. The more powerful, 1.0-litre engine is also available with a 5-speed AMT-type automatic transmission. The smaller, 0.8-litre petrol engine of the Kwid makes 54PS of power and 72Nm of torque while the 1.0-litre engine makes 68PS of power and 91Nm of torque.
- Maruti Suzuki Wagon R 1.2 produces 83PS of power. It is the most powerful engine in the segment, having 15PS more power than Kwid 1.0 AMT.
- Maruti Suzuki Wagon R 1.2 produces 113Nm of peak torque. It has the best torque figures in the segment.
- With a manual transmission, Maruti Suzuki Alto 0.8 has the best fuel-efficiency figure of 22.05kmpl.
- With an automatic transmission, Renault Kwid 1.0 has the best fuel-efficiency figure of 22.0kmpl.
- It’s worth noting that the Renault Kwid automatic is the only AMT-type automatic car without manual gear selection. The Redi-Go, which uses the same engine and transmission has this option and so do all the other automatic cars in this comparison.
Maruti Suzuki Wagon R 1.2 petrol engine offers the best torque in this segment, so it is expected to offer better driveability compared to all other cars. WagonR’s 1.2-litre engine is the most powerful in this comparison as it belongs in the B1 and B2 segment. So, naturally, it’ll win the performance challenges against the A segment cars like the Kwid, Redi GO and SPresso. If you're looking for a manual transmission car with low running costs, then Maruti Suzuki Alto 0.8 will be better since it is the most fuel-efficient car in this segment.

Renault Kwid is 3731mm long, 1579mm wide, 1474mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2422mm. A wider body normally results in better shoulder room and a higher roof makes ingress & egress easier. A longer wheelbase usually results in more cabin space. It has a boot space of 279 litres. A larger boot allows you to carry more luggage. Kwid has a 184mm ground clearance, it rides on 165/70 R14 tyres size and has 28 litres fuel tank capacity.
- Renault Kwid has an overall length of 3731mm, which makes it the longest car in the segment. In fact, the Kwid is longer than the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and Mahindra KUV100, which are B1 segment cars.
- Hyundai Santro is the widest car in the segment. It is 66mm wider than Kwid.
- Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is the tallest car in the segment. It is 201mm taller than Kwid.
- Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has the longest wheelbase in the segment. Its wheelbase is longer than the Kwid’s by 13mm.
- Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has the biggest boot space in the segment. It has 62-lt more boot space than the Kwid.
- Datsun redi-GO's ground clearance of 187mm is the best in the segment. The Kwid isn’t too far behind at 184mm and it has the second-best ground clearance.
- While all cars get 14-inch wheels at least in their higher variants, Alto 800 remains the only car that has the smallest 12-inch wheels. Its tyre size is also the narrowest in this class of entry-level cars.
Amongst all the A segment cars, Datsun redi-GO has the highest ground clearance, so it should be the last car to bottom-out on uneven roads. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has the biggest boot in the segment, so it can carry maximum luggage. In terms of cabin space, the WagonR’s bulbous proportions give it almost an unfair advantage. It’s tall boy design also gives it a better road presence than all other cars in this comparison.
