American car major Ford has brought out a special model of its iconic pony car Mustang to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the legendary Warner Bros film that starred Steve McQueen. Named after the film the new Ford Mustang Bullitt is a tribute to the film and was first unveiled at the 2018 North American International Auto Show, and is now being showcased at the Geneva International Motor Show 2018. The special Mustang Bullitt will hit the production in Europe in June this year.
Under the hood, the Ford Mustang Bullitt gets a 5.0L V8 engine which is expected to offer 464 PS of power and 526 Nm of torque and gets paired to a 6 speed manual transmission. The model has been endowed with an Open Air Induction System, intake manifold, 87 mm throttle bodies and a powertrain control module calibration system borrowed from the Shelby Mustang GT350.
The Ford Mustang Bullitt edition will be offered in a Shadow Black and a Dark Highland Green exterior colour option. Some of the special exterior elements of the Mustang Bullitt include the special 19 inch Torq Thrust alloy wheels, red coloured Brembo brake callipers and an artificial Bullitt fuel opening cap.
On the inside, the Mustang Bullitt boasts of Ford’s 12 inch all-digital LCD instrument cluster, Recaro sports seats and an exterior colour matching stitching all over the interior.
Each unit of the new Ford Mustang Bullitt will come with individual numbered sign replacing the traditional Mustang insignia on the passenger side dashboard, while there will be a premium B&O PLAY 1000 watt music system along with 12 high performance speakers.
The car offers an array of Driver assistance technologies such as Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert to alert about cars in blind spots. The company’s sophisticated MagneRide adjustable suspension system along with electronically stimulated fluid filled damper ensures that a smooth handling and enhanced ride comfort is delivered in various road conditions.
The new Ford Mustang will start getting delivered to its customers later this year.
The American auto major has got the support of third-generation members of the McQueen family, and has roped in Steve McQueen’s grandchildren - Chase and Madison for the official unveiling of the new Mustang Bullitt in Europe. Ford has even shot the famous car-chase scene with the new Mustang Bullitt starring Chase and Madison in the Swiss Alps surrounding Geneva.
Madison McQueen said that they were ecstatic as Ford and the Steve McQueen estate were recently able to donate the first new Mustang Bullitt VIN 001 for auction and raised $300,000 for charity.
As is apparent, the new Ford Mustang Bullitt is a tribute to the legendary Mustang GT fastback which featured in famed Steve McQueen movie in 1968. The new model also follows in the line of the previous special edition Bullitt models which were released in 2001 and 2008.
While commenting on the new Ford Mustang Bullitt, Mustang chief designer, Darrell Behmer said that the Mustang Bullitt is just as Steve McQueen was, “effortlessly cool”. He added by saying that as a designer, it is his favourite Mustang which sheds all stripes, spoilers as well as badges. The car doesn’t require screaming about anything, it is simply cool.
