It is already a well known fact that Jeep India is now preparing to launch the Compass’ range topping variant - the Trailhawk in the domestic car market. As all the Jeep aficionados know, the Trailhawk is the rugged, fully off-road ready version. The Jeep Compass Trailhawk will be coming all braced up with a number of upgrades in order to handle tough off-road requirements.
Among the several updates of the Jeep Compass Trailhawk, one of the most noteworthy is Jeep’s Active Drive Low-range 4WD along with a new 'Rock mode' for the SUV’s already existing Selec-Terrain 4WD system. It is also pretty much confirmed, that apart from the off-road centric mechanical upgrades, the Compass Trailhawk will also be boasting of a few new added features in order to mark itself apart from the other variants of the Compass compact SUV. These added features include the first time addition of a panoramic sunroof and cruise control, which have been two of the most demanded features by the buyers in the Compass in India. The Trailhawk variant will also flaunt a unique all-black theme for its interiors.
However, there’s more to the upcoming India-spec Compass Trailhawk. The Trailhawk trim will also be the first in India to be offered with a diesel engine along with automatic transmission gearbox. The new top-end variant of the Jeep Compass in India will be getting powered by the same 2.0 litre diesel motor that powers the existing Compass. However, the 9 speed automatic transmission will be a new addition.
When the additional features on the outside are concerned, the Compass Trailhawk will be announcing its special class with redesigned bumpers with enhanced approach and departure angles, newly designed 17 inch alloy wheels, a sporty dual tone black and silver body finish, black anti-glare bonnet decal and underbody skid plates. The protruding red recovery hooks will be the trademark of this variant. The Trailhawk variant being more rugged will also have 20 mm higher ground clearance as compared against the standard Compass variants, in order to offer improved approach angle at 30 degree and departure angle at 33.6 degree, while breakover angle is at 24.4 degree. The Trailhawk variant will also get hill descent control as a standard feature.
The authorized Jeep dealers across India have commenced registering the pre-launch bookings for the Compass Trailhawk variant for an advance payment of Rs. 2.5 lakhs. The Jeep Compass Trailhawk has been already being manufactured in Fiat India’s Ranjangaon production plant for the export markets, and now the variant will be manufactured at this facility for the domestic market as well. This plant of Fiat Chrysler Automobile (FCA) India is also the global production hub of the all the right-hand drive markets of Compass. The Jeep Compass, as we know is the first Jeep model to be locally manufactured in India, and is a massive success.
The Jeep Compass Trailhawk is expected to be priced at around Rs. 32 lakhs (ex-showroom), which should make it a rival of the likes of the Hyundai Tucson AWD and Volkswagen Tiguan in India.
