After a long wait, we finally got to see the production version of the Baleno-based SUV on day 2 of the Auto Expo. Maruti Suzuki are calling it the Fronx and it’ll literally sell alongside the Baleno through the Nexa line of dealerships. Here’s a quick walkaround video of the Fronx from the Auto Expo 2023:

It borrows the 1.2L petrol-manual and 1.2L petrol-automatic (AMT) from the Baleno. In addition, the Fronx also brings a brand new 1.0L mild-hybrid turbo petrol engine with a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. It’s likely to cost between Rs. 6.90 lakh and Rs. 11.40 lakh (ex-showroom). Maruti Suzuki WagonR Flex Fuel

ragonR Flex Fuel

For the first time, Maruti Suzuki put the WagonR flex-fuel prototype model with neon highlights on public display. Given the government’s push for flex fuel, Maruti Suzuki are also working on making their engines flex-fuel compatible.

To encourage the use of flex fuel cars, the government might offer some upfront tax benefit on the cars while keeping the fuel cost on par with petrol. Alternatively, the carmakers may keep the cost on par with their petrol variants but a slightly lower fuel cost could bring the total cost of ownership down and make flex fuel cars an attractive option.

Maruti Suzuki have confirmed that they will make their entire lineup E20 flex fuel compatible by the end of 2022-23 financial year. The carmaker will continue to test the prototype to make it compatible with up to 85% ethanol blend.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza Matte

Besides some big upgrades to Maruti’s portfolio, there were also some eye candies at the auto expo. To start with, we had the Brezza in matte grey with no mechanical changes. It had some cosmetic upgrades but the matte grey paint job was its main highlight. Unfortunately, it’s not in the immediate launch plans for Maruti Suzuki.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG

There was also a Brezza in matte blue shade but its matte paint was not the key detail. It was the upcoming Brezza with the factory-fit CNG bi-fuel option. This car is likely to go on sale in the coming months and we can expect to see the CNG option in the mid-spec VXI and ZXI variants.

Maruti Suzuki Nexa Grand Vitara Matte

For the Grand Vitara matte, Maruti Suzuki once again pulled the same stops and offered a matte grey paint finish with some cosmetic accessories. Mechanically, it’s the same as the regular Vitara.

Maruti Suzuki Nexa Grand Vitara Black

grand vitara black

Just like the Vitara matte, the Vitara black brings the same wine in a different bottle. Maruti Suzuki recently launched the black editions of all Nexa cars. The Grand Vitara is their most expensive product and it showcased their return back to the black exterior colour option. Besides the black exterior colour, it also had some matte grey or gloss black black elements replacing the chrome elements, which you get with the regular Grand Vitara.

Maruti Suzuki Swift Accessorised

swift

We were hoping to see the next-generation Swift at the Auto Expo 2023, at least in concept form. But we got an accessorised version of the current generation model with cosmetic upgrades such as:

  • Front bumper splitter
  • Rear bumper diffuser
  • Black accents on bonnet
  • Black accents on C-pillar
  • Rear spoiler
  • Red body colour with black dual-tone roof
  • Racing stripes on bonnet
  • ‘01’ race lettering on side

Mechanically, it’s the same as the regular Swift. We wish it had the turbo petrol engine to create some excitement around a car as sporty as the Swift.

  • Gold accents on boot lid bottom
  • Subtle fading black flower pattern below the window line
  • Gold accents on steering wheel
  • Gold accents on all front AC vents
  • Gold-black dual-tone alloy wheels

These cosmetic upgrades are a lot more toned down and seem realistic enough to make it to the market. For now, there’s no word if the Baleno gold accessory kit will go on sale or not.

Maruti Suzuki Nexa Ciaz Gold

ciaz gold
