Maruti Suzuki Ertiga CNG To Be Launch Soon

by Swati Sanchayi on Tuesday, Nov 27 2018

Maruti Suzuki introduced the second generation Ertiga MPV recently in the Indian market. The MPV has been priced starting from Rs 7.44 lakh (ex- showroom, Delhi) and is being offered with the 1.3- litre diesel and the new 1.5- litre petrol engine option from the Ciaz. However, according to the latest reports, the automaker is all set to introduce the CNG variant of the 2018 Ertiga in the first half of 2019.

The time automaker is taking in order to bring the CNG version of 2018 Ertiga is said to be that Maruti is still fine tuning the new K15B motor and its Smart Hybrid system for the CNG variant. The new 1.5L inline- four K15B petrol engine from Ciaz produces 103 bhp of power and 138 Nm of torque. The engine comes mated with either five- speed manual or four- speed automatic transmissions. However, the 1.3- litre DDiS diesel engine remains the same with 90 bhp of power and 200 Nm of peak torque mated to a five- speed manual transmission. The automaker doesn’t offer automatic gearbox option with the diesel engine.

Maruti Suzuki used an i- GPI (intelligent-Gas Port Injection) Dual Engine Control Unit on the previous model of Ertiga. The i- GPI Dual Engine Control Unit was calibrated to deliver precise amounts of fuel into the engine under all throttle load conditions for maximum efficiency and optimum performance. What will be more interesting to see this time will be that how this system is paired with the new smart hybrid petrol engine and whether the combined fuel efficiency on the CNG variant would be even more than the 22.8 kmpl as claimed on the previous generation model.

Currently, the claimed fuel efficiency by Maruti Suzuki on the 2018 Ertiga is 19.34 kmpl for the manual while the automatic makes 18.69 kmpl. The diesel Ertiga has a fuel efficiency of 25.47 kmpl. This is 10 per cent higher compared to the outgoing model. The upcoming CNG variant is expected to be offered from the VXi variant onwards and is likely to be priced at a premium of around Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 on the petrol variants.

Based on the Maruti Suzuki’s 5th generation HEARTECT platform, the 2018 Ertiga is bigger than the previous version and offers a new front grille, upgraded headlamp cluster with DRLs and projector headlamps, new front and rear bumpers as well as wood inserts and high- quality plastic finished in black and beige, while the dashboard also gets Maruti Suzuki's smartplay infotainment system that supports in- built navigation with smartphone connectivity options including Apple Car Play and Android Auto in the top variants. The new Ertiga also offers second- row seats with rear A/C vents as earlier.

Maruti Suzuki has already commenced the bookings for the new Ertiga with deliveries due to start by the end of the month. Maruti’s Arena dealerships will be responsible for the sales of the MPV and will take on Mahindra Marazzo and Renault Lodgy in the Indian market.
