Maruti Suzuki is the undisputable auto emperor in the Indian car market, and all models under the Maruti Suzuki brand are usually great at drawing sales volumes. Yet some of the Maruti models are obviously much more successful than the rest and are chartbusters. The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza subcompact SUV is one such runaway success.
The Indian subcompact SUV market has been a rapidly growing and heavily competitive space, and yet the Vitara Brezza continues to be a massive volume and that too despite the fact that it is a diesel-only model, while all its rivals are available in both petrol and diesel engine options. The massively popular Vitara Brezza has been rumored to get its petrol avatar for long now, which hasn’t yet materialized. However, now Maruti Suzuki is taking major steps to adhere to India’s new upcoming emission rules and also to cut down the country’s pollution levels, being India’s all-time top-selling car manufacturer. The Indo-Japanese auto major has announced that it will be phasing out diesel cars from April 2020. Thus, the petrol version of the Vitara Brezza is certainly on its way.
As per the latest reports, reliable sources have confirmed that Maruti Suzuki is going to launch the petrol avatar of the Vitara Brezza by this year’s festive season. The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is a highly successful model, and thus, it is certainly not going to get phased out along with the diesel cars, while it will be witnessing its diesel avatar’s end next year. So, the Vitara Brezza lovers are likely to get the vehicle only in its petrol version from next year, while those who have been waiting for the Brezza to come in its petrol avatar, are going to be happy very soon.
Regarding the under the hood specifications, there is no official confirmation yet. However, the 1.2-liter petrol engine is likely to be the choice for the Vitara Brezza, owing to its practicality as well as excise duty benefits. Nevertheless, the 83 bhp 1.2-liter petrol mill might not offer the perky performance needed for the mini SUV. Thus, a more powerful 1.5-liter petrol engine might be introduced. If this happens, then the Vitara Brezza petrol will share the same 1.5-liter petrol mill that does the duty under the hoods of the new Ciaz sedan and Ertiga MPV, although it might get a tad different state of tune. The upcoming Vitara Brezza petrol would get equipped with a 5-speed manual and an automatic (AMT) transmission option.
Going by the new BS-VI emission norms that will come into effect by April 2020 that is actually aimed at phasing out all diesel cars, Maruti Suzuki has started working on its entire car lineup in the country. The company stated that as upgrading the diesel engines to be BS-VI compliant will increase production costs considerably, it has taken the decision to phase out its diesel models.
Maruti Suzuki would be equipping its entire petrol line-up with SHVS technology to offer higher fuel economy and lower emissions rates. Hence, the Vitara Brezza petrol is also expected to come with SHVS tech. Moreover, even with the 1.5-liter engine, the petrol Vitara Brezza is going to have a more affordable tag than the current diesel version, and is thus, likely to witness sales boost.
