Italian luxury automaker Maserati has launched a new 345 bhp version of its V6 engine on the Levante lineup. This has resulted in the introduction of a new entry-level petrol trim which has been placed under the Levante S, and comes with a starting price tag of £61,425.
The new 3.0 litre 6-cylinder petrol engine that has also been introduced to the Quattroporte model is capable of offering a max power output of 345 bhp, which is 79 bhp of less power than that of the V6 engine that does the duty on the Levante S. The new engine will also eventually be introduced on the Ghibli model range. However, the new 3 litre engine delivers better fuel efficiency with a claimed mileage of 24.4 mpg as compared against the 23.9 mpg fuel efficiency of the more potent engine. The engine’s CO2 emission is rated at 268-270 g/km.
The new V6 engine powered Maserati Levante luxury SUV which is Porsche Cayenne’s arch rival, can do the 0 to 62 mph sprint in just 6.0 seconds, and it offers a top speed of 156 mph. This makes the new entry-level variant only eight-tenth of second and 8 mph behind the performance level of the more expensive Levante S that is available at a starting £72,525.
The new 3 litreV6 engine has been introduced to the Maserati Levante range after Levante witnessed a series of model year updates. Maserati has unveiled and demonstrated the new entry-level V6 engine powered Levante model at the recent 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Apart from the new engine, the new Levante base model also comes endowed with adaptive LED matrix headlights as well as 11 new exterior body colour options to choose from. Maserati has also made its Integrated Vehicle Control system that is a proactive version of the stability control, a standard equipment across the entire range of Levante.
In the car market of UK, the Maserati Levante is available for sale powered by three engine range apart from the newly introduced V6 3 liter petrol mill. The Italian luxury car maker has also made available a V6 diesel engine option for sale on the new entry-level model. The Levante diesel entry level model trim has been tagged at starting £58,315, and offer a max power output of 271 bhp.
Maserati has also recently announced two more V8 engine versions, namely - the 542 bhp GTS and the even more powerful 582bhp Trofeo versions. However, neither of these model trims has yet been introduced in the UK car market. The auto market of Britain is expecting to witness the unveiling of the GTS version towards the end of this current calendar year, while the Trofeo variant hasn’t been yet confirmed for the car market of UK by the Italian auto major.
On the other hand, the Itlain luxury vehicle manufacturer’s Quattroporte lineup has extended to just two models, and thus continues to remain pretty small in comparison. The Quattroporte range came with a single diesel engine powered model, before the recent introduction of the new V6 petrol engine option.
