Japanese automaker Toyota has launched the Fortuner Diamond Edition in Argentina. The new top-end variant added to the Fortuner variant line-up will initially be available for sale in South American markets only. The newly launched Diamond Edition Fortuner called as SW4 Diamond in Argentina features a host of updated and stylish exterior and interior features. The Toyota SW4 Diamond is available exclusively in the 7-seat version, for a price of ARS $12,23,700 (INR 39.44 lakh).
Mechanically, the newly launched SW4 Diamond edition gets the same 1GD 2.8-litre turbodiesel engine as the regular Toyota SW4 in the country. This four-cylinder engine produces 174 BHP of maximum power and 450 Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission and a 4WD system sends drive to all the four wheels. However, in India, Toyota sells the Fortuner with a 166hp, 2.7-litre petrol and 177hp, 2.8-litre diesel engine options.
At the exterior, a unique 18-inch alloy wheel design – which actually looks quite similar to the one on the Jeep Compass Trailhawk – slightly darkened chrome accents on the grille and a faux-brushed aluminium-finish skid plate on the front bumper are the premium features while the interior offers tan leather seats and a faux-bronze finish on the centre console, a 10-speaker JBL sound system and a unique white-and-gold finish key fob.
In the Indian market, petrol option available in India is only offered with 2WD. The buyers can choose MT variant for INR 26.20 lakh while automatic variant gets priced at INR 27.89 lakh. The diesel option is divided into four variants as range starts at INR 27.80 lakh for 4×2 manual variant and goes up to INR 31.99 lakh for 4×4 AT option. Apart from this, the buyers can choose manual variant with 4×4 or get an AT option on 4×2 drive-train. The premium SUV takes against the likes of the Ford Endeavour, the Isuzu MU-X and the Jeep Compass in the country. However, there is no update regarding the Fortuner Diamond edition making its way to the Indian market anytime soon.
