Skoda Auto India is going aggressive with its new model launch strategy. Apart from preparing a slew of new India-specific models as part of VW Group’s 2.0 Turnaround plan, the Czech automaker is also working to refresh its current product portfolio for India. The Skoda Superb flagship sedan is also preparing to come in its new updated avatar in the Indian market. Skoda launched the Superb’s top of the line Sportline variant in India in October this year, while the Corporate Edition came earlier. Now, the Czech car maker is readying up the updated Superb to beat market competition in the premium saloon segment of the country.

The Skoda Superb needs a refresh pretty soon to fight with its illustrious rivals in India. Toyota is gearing up to launch its highly popular Camry Hybrid’s new model, with bigger dimensions, better styling and underpinned by the TNGA platform in January, 2019. So, it will be wise on Skoda’s part to bring in the updated Superb soon.

The 2019 updated Skoda Superb sedan is likely to have its world premiere early in 2019, before its actual international market launch. The first spy pictures of the Superb facelift have been recently splashed on the internet. The highly camouflaged test prototype didn’t reveal any design details, which indicates good amount of cosmetic updates. The LED headlights are expected to make way for the new Bi-Xenon units. The entire front fascia of the car is expected to receive design updates including the patent butterfly grille, bumper and fog lamps. The rear façade is also likely to get a noticeable refresh with restyled LED tail lights and new graphics. The side profile is likely to remain mostly unchanged, but new alloys are definitely expected. The overall design language will be retained.

On the inside, the Superb is expected to get a host of added new premium features and technological updates to enhance the creature comfort and offer a smarter user experience.

Internationally, the Skoda Superb received a feature update back in May, 2017, which included the addition of bigger infotainment system, Manoeuvre Assist, Park Distance Control, electrically adjustable ventilation and optional massage driver seat among others, while no styling updates were introduced. However, the upcoming model is going to be the Superb’s mid-life facelift, which should include a significant cosmetic updates as well.

The Skoda Superb’s plug-in hybrid powertrain is expected to carry forward the same hybrid system with the 1.4L petrol mill paired with an electric motor to offer a combined power of 217 PS. The same 180 bhp/320 Nm 1.8 litre TSI petrol mill, and the 177 bhp/ 350 Nm 2.0L TDI diesel motor are expected to continue too, and these powertrains could be updated to be BSVI compliant for the Indian market.

The petrol version of the Superb gets equipped with a 6 speed manual and a 7 speed dual-clutch automatic transmission option, while the diesel avatar is paired with a 6speed automatic transmission.

Being braced with new cosmetic changes and added new features and techs, the updated new Skoda Superb flagship sedan will fight better with its rivals in India – the Toyota Camry, Volkswagen Passat, Honda Accord and the likes.
