2020 Hyundai Venue Petrol Variants Explained - Which One To Buy?
Read on to find out which variant of the 2020 Hyundai Venue petrol is the most value for money. Here we compare the prices of the 2020 Venue's petrol variants and the features to tell you which variant is the most Value For Money (VFM). Then we will compare the engine specs, dimensions and fuel efficiency of the 2020 Hyundai Venue with its competitors and other petrol B2-segment SUVs.

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Hyundai Venue Petrol?
The pros or advantages of Venue petrol 2020 are:
- Turbo petrol engine has the best-in-class torque-to-weight ratio and a wide torque band for great drivability and minimal gear changes.
- Option of a cheaper 1.2-litre normal petrol engine with adequate performance. Now it’s also available in S Plus variant with a decent amount of kit.
- Option of factory fitted auto-clutch manual transmission for the convenience of not having to deal with the clutch in traffic while maintaining full control over gear changes. It’s reasonably priced too and costs only about Rs. 21k - 23k more.
- A very long list of style, functional, entertainment and safety features.
The Hyundai Venue petrol 2020 has the following shortcomings or problems:
- The price jump from the 1.2L normal to the 1.0L turbo is quite high at almost Rs. 1.1 lakh.
- Hyundai’s new design for the Venue may polarize opinions of some buyers.
- Terrible feature distribution. Venue reserves even some basic features like rear washer and wiper, rear armrest and split-folding rear seatback for the top-of-the-line SX (O) variant.
- Even the top-spec petrol automatic variant of the Venue is not available with extra airbags, split seatback, rear armrest, rear washer wiper. Surprisingly, it gets alloy wheels, which are dead easy to install after the purchase.
- At Rs. 9.6 lakh, the S DCT’s feature list seems very basic.
- Some of you may find the Venue 1.2’s performance to be unacceptable - especially after test driving a turbo petrol car.
- Dual-clutch automatic transmission has a questionable record for long-term reliability. No DCT has had smooth sailing in India's harsh climatic and driving conditions.
What Is The Price Of 2020 Hyundai Venue?
The 2020 Venue petrol is available in a total of 6 variants. 3 of those are further available with the Sport package, which includes cosmetic upgrades and that too at different prices.
Then there are a total of 4 engine and transmission combinations to choose from. Some of these are available in select trims. Eventually, you end up with a list of 13 options to pick from making it quite confusing to pick the right option that meets your needs.
On the plus side, if you’re on a shoestring budget and you want an SUV, then the Venue becomes an easy choice. It’s the most affordable option in the segment starting at Rs. 6.7 lakh - as of August 2020.
The 1.2-litre engine with a 5-speed manual transmission is available in E, S and S Plus variants with prices ranging from Rs. 6.7 to 8.32 lakh. The turbo petrol engine option is available in S, SX and SX (O) variants with a 6-speed full manual transmission with prices between Rs. 8.46 and Rs. 10.85 lakh. Two of those variants also have the option of an auto-clutch manual transmission, which is available in SX and SX (O) variants for Rs. 10 and Rs. 11.09 lakh, respectively. If you want it with the automatic, then you have S and SX Plus variants to choose from and they cost Rs. 9.6 and Rs. 11.41 lakh, respectively.

The Venue S 1.2 costs just a bit more than it should, considering the additional features it gets over the E variant. However, the S 1.2 is still worth buying if you are on a budget and don’t mind the performance of this engine.
If you do, then for Rs. 1.06 lakh, you can get the S 1.0 turbo. It doesn't get any additional features, which makes it quite a bit expensive over the S 1.2. We believe an additional asking price of Rs. 60 - 70,000 would have been more reasonable for this performance upgrade.
However, the price jump of Rs. 1.14 lakh on top of the S turbo MT is justified for the automatic as it gets the following additional features:
- ESC
- HSA
- Detailed MID
It doesn’t justify the jump from the S 1.2 to S turbo, though. Not to mention, its feature list is too basic considering its Rs. 10+ lakh on-road price.

2020 Hyundai Venue 1.2 Petrol S vs S Plus Variant
If you still find the Venue S 1.2 to be basic, then you should consider the S Plus variant. It costs Rs. 8.32 lakh and is Rs. 92,000 more expensive than the S 1.2. It adds the following notable features:
- Halogen projector headlamps
- Halogen projector fog lamps
- LED tail lamps
- 8-inch touchscreen infotainment
- Android Auto and Apple Carplay
- Rear parking camera
- Height-adjustable Driver Seat
- Auto AC
- LED DRLs
- Leather-wrapped Steering
This variant again costs just a bit more than it should but it’s not too overpriced for its additional features. The S is still a better value for money but the S Plus 1.2’s equipment may make you consider this option.

2020 Hyundai Venue Turbo Petrol S vs SX Variant
The SX variant of the Venue is only available with the turbo petrol engine and the transmission options include 6-speed MT and 6-speed ACMT (auto-clutch manual transmission). The SX turbo MT costs Rs. 9.79 lakh, which is Rs. 1.33 lakh more than the S turbo variant. For an additional Rs. 21,000, you can get this variant with the ACMT, which greatly reduces the effort required for driving in traffic.
The notable additional features of SX turbo over the S turbo are:
- Projector headlamps
- Projector fog lamps
- 8-inch touchscreen
- Android Auto and Apple Carplay
- Auto AC
- Power folding mirrors
- Sunroof
- Cornering lights
- Parking camera
- Cruise control
- Height-adjustable driver seat
- 16-inch alloy wheels
- LED DRLs
- LED tail lamps
- Adjustable rear headrests
- Auto headlamps
If you are okay with paying a higher asking price for the turbo petrol engine, then the SX variant justifies all other costs with the feature list. Unless you need this variant with a full-manual transmission, we strongly recommend considering the ACMT. It costs a reasonable Rs. 20,000 or so and it relieves your left leg by electronically managing the clutch. It will take some time getting used to changing gears without using the clutch pedal, but once you do, you may have a hard time switching back to full manual. It is downright painful to modulate the clutch pedal in traffic and Rs. 20,000 is peanuts for this technology.
Even if you’re buying the Venue S automatic, you should seriously consider the SX ACMT. The S automatic is too basic for the asking price. The SX ACMT does away with the most difficult part of driving a manual transmission - modulating the clutch pedal. It is not as good as a DCT but it’s definitely good enough to warrant a close look. It is also worth mentioning that the SX turbo ACMT is the most value for money variant in the entire Venue lineup.

The SX Plus automatic is a great value for money variant and the top-recommended option for Venue petrol automatic. It justifies the incremental asking price over the lower variants. Moreover, it gets a good number of functional, safety and style features. The only problem with this variant is that you can’t get the Venue automatic with features like:
- Rear armrest
- Split-folding rear backrest
- Rear washer wiper
- Thorax and curtain airbags
- Keyless entry with push-button start/stop
Unfortunately, there’s no true, top-end variant with an automatic transmission. It’d have been nicer to have some of these features in the SX Plus variant instead of alloy wheels, which are very easy to install after the purchase.

2020 Hyundai Venue Turbo Petrol SX vs SX (O) Variant
The top-spec SX (O) variant of the Hyundai Venue petrol is available with 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine and a choice of 6-speed manual and 6-speed auto-clutch manual transmission (ACMT). Compared to the more affordable SX turbo full manual, this variant costs Rs. 10.85 lakh, which is 1.06 lakh more expensive. The price jump from SX ACMT to SX (O) ACMT is almost Rs. 1.09 lakh. For this additional price, you get the following notable additional features over the SX manual:
- Side & Curtain Airbags
- Smart Key with Push-button Start/Stop
- Chrome Door Handles
- Rear Wiper & Washer
- BLUELINK / Connected Car Tech
- Air Purifier
- Leather & Fabric Upholstery

- Auto-dimming IRVM with Telematics

2020 Hyundai Venue Sport vs Non-sport Variants - To Buy Or Not?

The price of Sport add-on varies between Rs. 12k to Rs. 20k. Here’s what you get for this additional sum:
- Dual-tone exterior
- Sport badge
- Red brake callipers
- Glossy black front grille with red insert
- Dark grey front bumper accents
- Dark grey roof rails with red accents
- Red accents in the wheel arch and body cladding
- 4-spoke, flat-bottom steering wheel from the Creta
- Metal finish on pedals
- Red accents on knobs
- Dark grey upholstery
- Red accents on upholstery, steering, gear knob and door pads
If you are interested in these cosmetic features, then the Sport is worth upgrading to. Even at Rs. 20k, it’s justified and very lucratively priced in case of the SX (O) ACMT. Only in case of the SX Sport ACMT variant, the ex-showroom price shoots past Rs. 10 lakh, which will have a huge impact on the on-road price in many states.
Which Variant Of The 2020 Hyundai Venue Petrol Should You Buy?
Let’s first tackle the manual transmission variants starting with the 1.2-litre engine. The E, S and S Plus variants are all reasonably priced and you have to decide for yourself which one best suits your budget and requirements.
The S turbo petrol is a bit expensive over the S 1.2 for the performance enhancements it offers. Also, it has a very basic feature list. If you can’t stretch your budget further, want the turbo torque and can live without some basic features, only then we’d recommend this option. There are a lot of if.s in the previous sentence and that makes it not suitable for most buyers. Consider the S Plus variant instead or go for the SX variant.
The SX turbo is a better value for money, especially with the ACMT (auto-clutch manual transmission). The clutch-free life will cost you just Rs. 20k or so more and it's worth buying. Between the SX full MT and SX ACMT, we’d suggest you go with the ACMT.
If you want top-notch safety features, then you’ll have to get the SX (O). Thankfully, it also carries a justifiable price tag. Again, consider the SX (O) ACMT over the full-manual transmission.

If you want the automatic transmission, then you have S and SX Plus variants to choose from. The S will cost you well over Rs. 10 lakh and the feature list will disappoint you. If you want the convenience of driving, then consider the SX ACMT, which at least does away with the clutch pedal and costs only a bit more than the SX full manual variant. Or, you should stretch your budget for the SX Plus automatic.
Be advised, that even though this variant is the top-spec automatic variant of the Venue, you’ll miss out on features like rear armrests, split rear seatback, side and curtain airbags and rear washer and wiper. If these are important to you, then you should skip the automatic and consider the SX (O) ACMT.
As far as the Sport variants are concerned, it’s a cosmetic upgrade and priced appropriately. So, if you like those stylish features, then it’s worth the extra money. Just be careful with the SX Sport ACMT, which costs more than Rs. 10 lakh and therefore, may significantly jack up your car’s on-road price.

What Are The Engine Specifications Of The 2020 Hyundai Venue Petrol?
In terms of performance, the Venue has it bang on. On one end, it has the cheaper 1.2-litre normal petrol engine, and on the other end, it has the 1.0 L turbo petrol engine.
The normal petrol is no scorcher, but it’s also not as bad as the WRV, which has a pathetic torque-to-weight ratio of under 100Nm/tonne. To put things in perspective, you can expect performance similar to a petrol i20. We can call its performance ‘adequate’. Even on the mileage side, its figure of 17.27kmpl is much better than the WR V’s 16.5kmpl and even better than the Brezza’s petrol MT’s.
The price jump to get the turbo engine is quite high but you also get a serious boost in the Venue’s torque-to-weight ratio for best-in-class performance. Despite this fantastic performance, its mileage of 18.2kmpl is comparable with that of the Brezza hybrid’s 18.76kmpl figure. For manual transmission, it’s easily the best in class. So, you’re not sacrificing fuel efficiency for better performance.
Finally, the crown jewel of the Venue - ACMT (auto-clutch manual transmission). This option is only available with the turbo petrol engine and it’s the perfect middle ground between total control and maximum convenience. What makes it worth a serious look is its price - it’s only Rs. 20-25k more than a full-manual transmission.
From a reliability standpoint, there’s not much that can go wrong in this car as it’s mechanically very simple. If anything, you may find mechanical ghosts hiding in the turbo + dual-clutch automatic combination. No DCT has so far survived the harsh Indian climatic and driving conditions so far to prove their long-term reliability. So, the ACMT makes a strong case for itself with mechanical simplicity, convenience and total VFM pricing.
