    2020 Kia Seltos

What Are The Pros And Cons Of Kia Seltos Diesel?

The pros or advantages of Seltos diesel 2020 are:

    • Aggressively priced base and well-equipped top variants.
    • Healthy torque-to-weight ratio of 186Nm/tonne and satisfactory mileage as well.
    • Option of a 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission with the diesel engine.
    • Non-polarizing style - both, inside and outside.
    • A decent number of luxurious touches in higher variants like power driver seat, rear window curtains, air purifier, UV cut glass, Bose music system, etc.
    • A healthy list of safety features - 6 airbags, ABS, TPMS, ESP, HSA, 360 camera, lane watch camera, front and rear parking sensors, etc.

The Kia Seltos diesel 2020 has the following shortcomings or problems:

    • Missing features like power-adjustable front passenger seat, powered tailgate and a panoramic sunroof.
    • No auto AC lower three variants.
    • The base diesel variant costs more than a million bucks ex-showroom. Many states have a much higher registration fee for cars with a 7-digit price tag. It greatly affects the on-road pricing for the buyers.
    • The MG Hector and Hector Plus are within reach for Seltos diesel manual buyers. MG’s SUVs are bigger and they have more torque and more features.

2020 Kia Seltos Diesel HTE - Base Model Features & Review

The base HTE variant of the Seltos diesel costs Rs. 10.34 lakh. For this price, you get the following features:

    • Music system
    • 2 airbags
    • ABS
    • Parking sensors
    • Rear disc brakes
    • Day/night inside mirror
    • Projector halogen headlamps
    • Steering-mounted controls
    • All power windows
    • Remote central locking
    • Height adjustable driver seat
    • Rear AC vents
    • Front armrest
    • Wheel covers
    • Sunglass holder
    • Tilt steering

This variant covers the basics very well but still misses out on power mirrors, which are critical in such a wide SUV. Other than that, the aggressive price makes it difficult to ignore and the Seltos HTE diesel gets a buy rating from us. The only thing worth considering is its >Rs. 10 lakh price, which may greatly add to its on-road price in some states where the registration fee is much higher for million-rupee cars.

2020 Kia Seltos Diesel HTE vs HTK Variant

The HTK variant of the Seltos diesel costs Rs. 11.69 lakh, which is Rs. 1.35 lakh more than the Seltos HTE. for this additional cost, the HTK variant adds the following features:

    • Rear parking camera
    • Projector fog lamps
    • 8-inch touchscreen
    • Android Auto and Apple Carplay
    • 2 extra speakers
    • Power mirrors
    • Mudguards
    • Boot lamps
    • Roof rails

While most of its features are must-have, they don’t justify the Rs. 1.35 lakh higher asking price. The HTK variant of the Seltos diesel is not recommended. You should either buy the HTE variant and accessorize it or consider one of the higher variants.

2020 Kia Seltos Diesel HTK vs HTK Plus Variant

The HTK Plus variant of the 2020 Kia Seltos diesel costs Rs. 12.69 lakh, which is Rs. 1.0 lakh higher than the HTK variant. There’s also an option of an automatic transmission with HTK Plus diesel, which adds another Rs. 1.0 lakh to the ex-showroom price. The additional features of the HTK Plus variant over the HTK are:

    • Rear washer wiper
    • Rear defogger
    • Keyless entry with push-button start/stop
    • Cruise control
    • Auto-folding outside mirror
    • Auto headlamps
    • Rear window curtains
    • LED DRLs
    • LED ambient lighting
    • 16-inch alloy wheels
    • Rear parcel tray

The HTK Plus variant justifies its incremental price over the HTK variant but it doesn’t cover up the price gap between HTK and HTE. The HTK Plus diesel manual is a better VFM variant than the HTK but it’s not the most VFM option in the list.

For diesel automatic buyers, the HTK Plus is an acceptable starting point and it’s worth buying. But, if you want better value for money, then consider the GTX Plus automatic variant.

2020 Kia Seltos Diesel HTK Plus vs HTX Variant

The HTX variant of the Seltos diesel costs Rs. 14.44 lakh - Rs. 1.75 lakh more than the HTK Plus manual. That’s quite a jump in price and for that, you get the following notable features:

    • Larger touchscreen
    • Telematics features
    • LED headlamps
    • LED tail lamps
    • Auto-dimming inside mirror
    • Rear armrest
    • Sunroof

    • Telescopic steering
    • Reclining rear seat
    • LED light bar

    • Air purifier

The HTX variant justifies its big price gap with a good mix of must-have and good-to-have features. For Seltos diesel manual buyers, the HTX is our top recommended variant and worth buying.

2020 Kia Seltos Diesel HTX vs HTX Plus Variant

The HTX Plus variant of the Seltos diesel is another Rs. 1.05 lakh more expensive and costs Rs. 15.49 lakh. For Seltos diesel automatic buyers, the price jump for the HTX Plus from HTK Plus is almost Rs. 3.0 lakh. The additional features of the HTX Plus over the HTX are:

    • Front parking sensors
    • Bose music system
    • Ventilated front seats
    • 8-way power driver seat
    • Wireless phone charger
    • UV cut glass
    • Rear spoiler
    • Full-colour instrument cluster

The HTX Plus variant mostly adds luxurious features to the list and we don’t see any of them as must-have. It’s asking price is acceptable and we leave the decision to buy this variant in your hands as nothing is compelling enough to warrant an upgrade.

If you’re interested in the automatic transmission, then you should skip this variant and jump straight to the GTX Plus.

    • 2 front thorax airbags
    • 2 curtain airbags
    • 360-degree camera
    • Blindspot lane watch camera view in the instrument cluster
    • ESC
    • HSA
    • Multiple driving modes
    • Metal pedals
    • Red accents for the interior and exterior and GT badging
    • Difference alloy wheel design

The GTX Plus variant adds enough critical safety features for a great price to justify upgrading. For the Seltos diesel automatic buyers, the GTX Plus is worth buying over the HTX Plus.

Which Variant Of The 2020 Kia Seltos Diesel Should You Buy?

Let’s first tackle this question for the diesel manual buyers.

The HTE’s price is very appealing and it’s worth buying - IF - you’re okay with the higher taxes that come with a car with over Rs. 10 lakh ex-showroom price. Even with that higher price, it’s worth buying but if your state registration fee does not vary too much for cars > Rs. 10 lakh, then you can buy it. You should buy it even if you can upgrade to the HTK or HTK Plus variant. Because these don’t justify the higher price with more features over the HTE variant. The HTK Plus is better but still worse than the HTX.

Sure, price jump to the HTX is steep but equally better is the experience. HTX offers a great mix of functional and style features to justify the price gap. This is our top recommended variant for Seltos diesel manual buyers as it also offers great value for money.

The HTX Plus is well priced for the additional luxurious features, and you can consider it if you want an elevated cabin experience. But, there’s nothing critical enough to make it a must-have upgrade.

An asking price of just Rs. 85,000 over the HTX Plus makes it a must-have upgrade.

What Are The Engine Specifications Of The 2020 Kia Seltos Diesel?

The Kia Seltos uses the same 1.6-litre diesel engine as the Creta, Verna and Venue. It makes 115PS of power and 250Nm of torque. The Seltos diesel has a healthy torque-to-weight ratio of 186Nm/tonne, which is a shade better than the Elantra diesel’s figure.

This engine is also very fuel-efficient and promises 18kmpl with the automatic and 21kmpl with the manual transmission. There’s no competition for the Seltos diesel other than from the sister company Hyundai as no other C-segment SUV offers a diesel engine option. If anything, the Seltos is often fighting it out with potential D-segment buyers considering the Tata Harrier or MG Hector/Hector Plus. It shows that it has the potential to satisfy the needs of buyers with deeper pockets for bigger cars.

What Are The Dimensions Of The 2020 Kia Seltos?

In terms of dimensions, again, the Seltos only has to deal with the Crta, which is a bit shorter, a bit narrower and a bit lower than the Seltos. But other than that, they’re identical. They have the same fuel tank capacity, tyre sizes, and ground clearance.
