Japanese auto major Nissan has confirmed that the Nissan Kicks compact SUV/crossover will be launched in the car market of India in 2018. The Japanese company’s senior VP and chairman of the management committee for Africa, Middle East and India, Mr. Peyman Kargar has recently confirmed about the upcoming launch of the Kicks in India.

With the Nissan Kicks, the company is looking to make a mark in the slightly premium SUV segment in India. Nissan has not experienced good success in the highly popular and vast SUV market of India. The Nissan Terrano received a good start, but soon got engulfed by the popularity of its cousin, the Renault Duster. Nissan is planning a fresh model launch attack on the Indian auto industry to grab customer attention, and the Kicks will be the first of its upcoming planned launches in the country. Nissan is hoping that the Kicks will prove to be a game changer for the company in India and turn around the company’s fortunes in this market.

The following are the top 5 facts that you need to know about the upcoming Nissan Kicks:

    1. Platform

In the global markets, the Nissan Kicks SUV is based on the Nissan V platform, but the India-spec model will based on the Renault M0 platform, which underpins the Renault Duster, Renault Lodgy and the soon to launch Renault Captur. The M0 platform will enable Nissan to heavily localize the Kicks crossover and price the product aggressively to increase its chances of success in the price sensitive Indian car market.

    2. Powertrain

Apart from the Renault M0 platform, the Kicks is also likely to share the engine and gearbox options with the Renault vehicles. It is thus, expected that the Kicks compact SUV would come packed with the 1.5 litre K9K diesel engine.

    3. Design Language

Although the Nissan Kicks would be sharing a lot of parts, engine and platform with the Renault models, it would not have a similar styling unlike some the earlier Nissan launches that even Kicks shared the design with the Renault models. The Kicks crossover will comes with a distinctive styling. The India-spec Kicks will get a very different styling which is in line with the global Nissan crossover styling. The Indian Kicks will have a similar design to that of the Brazilian model and will have a very individual visual appeal in India.

    4. Market Positioning

The Kicks will be to Nissan, what the soon to launch Captur will be to Renault in India. Thus, the Kicks will be placed above the Nissan Terrano SUV in the Indian lineup and will go head-on against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Mahindra XUV500, Jeep Compass, Tata Hexa and its own cousin the Renault Captur. The Kicks is also expected to come loaded with premium features like a centrally mounted 7.0 inch infotainment system with various connectivity options, automatic climate control, sporty flat-bottomed steering wheel and much more to justify its premium positioning.

    5. Kicks Sales Goal

As per the sources, Nissan has set a rather ambitious sales target of 30,000 units of the Kicks in the first year after its Indian launch.
