Nissan is all set to introduce its new Kicks compact SUV in India in order to get a share in the very profitable Indian compact SUV pie. Nissan India is betting big on the Kicks to become the game changer for the company. Before the Nissan Kicks SUV launches in India in January, 2019, here are the top things that you should know about the model:
Larger India-spec model
The Nissan Kicks is a global model which has replaced the Nissan Juke in the international markets. The global Kicks is based on the Nissan V platform, but for cost efficiency, the India-spec Kicks will be underpinned by the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance’s M0 platform, which also underpins the Nissan Terrano and Renault Captur. Due to the platform, the India-spec Kicks is a tad bigger than the global model.
The India-spec Kicks’ styling is almost identical to that of its international counterpart. However, the Indian version is slightly different as it gets a more flared wheel arches as well as a taller stance and thus, offers a bit more aggressive appeal. Another nice design change is that the doors have been extended down incorporating plastic clad running boards. As per Nissan, this thoughtful design change is to protect the traditional Indian apparel from dragging on the dirty side sills.
On the inside, the Kicks gets the same cabin layout as that of its global counterpart, and will be previewing the interiors of the upcoming models from Nissan India stable. The cabin gets a neat and up-class styling and gets a hot of premium features. Features include plush leather panel on the dashboard, an all-new premium floating-type 8 inch touchscreen display integrated infotainment system, which offers a new user experience as well as a new layout. Some features of the instrument cluster and the climate controls have been taken from the Renault Captur SUV. While there are lots of good features and materials, there are also some panels featuring the same hard plastic which are found on the ongoing SUV models from Nissan and Renault.
Features & Safety
The Nissan Kicks compact premium SUV will be coming with a feature-rich cabin along with few first-in-the-segment features and advanced techs. Features list will include premium leather covered dashboard, quilted leather seat upholstery, 360 degree view camera, infotainment system with Nissan Connect with Apple Carplay, Android Auto support and smartphone app integration, cruise control, rain sensing automatic wipers, cooled glove box and cornering lamps among many more.
Safety equipments are expected to include two airbags, ABS, EBD, traction control, hill start assist and more as part of the standard package depending on the variants.
Engine & Transmission
The soon to launch Nissan Kicks will get share its engine range with the Nissan and Renault SUVs. It will get the tried and tested K9K 1.5 litre diesel motor and the H4K 1.5 litre petrol mill choices. The oil burner delivers a max power output of 110 PS along with 240 Nm of top torque, and is paired with a 6 speed manual gearbox. The petrol engine generates 106 PS and 142 Nm and is coupled with a 5 speed transmission. Both the engines get equipped with two-wheel drive system.
