The South Korean company has just launched its first subcompact SUV model – the Venue, in India. Here we are going to compare the Hyundai Venue subcompact SUV with the highly popular Hyundai Elite i20 premium hatchback model. Although, these two models belong to two very different segments, it is known that the modern Indian car buyers are increasingly going for subcompact SUVs over big hatchbacks.

    The top of the range model of the Hyundai Venue subcompact SUV is the fully-loaded SX+ Turbo DCT that is tagged at Rs. 11.10 lakhs.

    Note: The top-end Venue is almost a good 2 lakhs more expensive than the top-end Elite i20. The top-end Elite i20 is comparable with the tag of the S 1L Turbo 7DCT variant of the Venue, but is still cheaper.

    The Venue comes with a choice of two petrol engines. The 1.2L petrol mill which is the same as that of the i20 is mated to a 5 speed manual transmission and offers the same power figures.

    On the other hand, the more powerful 1L turbo unit gets paired with a choice of a 6 speed manual and an all-new 7 speed DCT automatic gearbox.

    As the comparable Elite i20 Asta (O) variants are both powered by 1.2L mill, the comparable Venue variants (S 1L Turbo 6MT, S 1L Turbo 7DCT) are both more powerful. The Venue’s lower 1.2L engine loses out on automatic transmission unlike the Elite i20. Nevertheless, the new 1L Turbo mill offers the Venue the needed punch that is needed for the performance level of an SUV, which is not expected from a hatchback.

    Both the cars have similarity in size, as both are sub-4 metre models. The Venue is much higher, wider and also a bit longer than the Elite i20, as it is an SUV model. However, the i20 has a longer wheelbase, meaning good interior space.

    In terms of features, the top-end Elite i20 offers a lot of conveniences and fancy features and also offers a better infotainment system than the comparable Venue S 1L 7DCT variant. However, The Venue variant is better in terms of safety features.

     

    Which is Better Hyundai Venue vs Elite i20 ?

     

    The Hyundai Elite i20 premium hatchback is really a very capable, stylish, reliable, comfortable and feature-rich family hatchback. In its two top MT and CVT its offers a lot of good features, but still loses out on few compared to the lower Venue SUV variants.

    The all-new Venue subcompact SUV is a new-age car, and being an SUV, even its lower variants offer some better safety features than the top Elite i20 variants, along with its new and more powerful turbocharged mill and all-new 7DCT gearbox of the AT variant.

    Both the Elite i20 variants compared here are a tad more affordable than the comparable lower variants of the Venue.
