India gets new Mini Cooper – What it is like

Iconic British brand, Mini had recently launched the new 2018 Cooper lineup in the Indian car market. The new Mini Cooper range in India comprises of the Cooper S and Cooper D, both of which are offered for sale in 3-door and 5-door variants. Moreover, the Cooper S also comes in a sporty convertible version in our market.
Exterior
When talking about the visual appeal of the new Mini Cooper range in India, the models come with the same, unmistakable classic Mini structure and basic design language. Nevertheless, the British brand has endowed a handful of updates to make the 2018 range come with better and distinctive appeal. The circular LED headlights have been revised slightly, which features a new lens design as well as new DRLs which double up as the turn indicators and hazard lights. There is also adaptive LED lighting which comes with cornering functionality along with Matrix pattern in order to avoid blinding from oncoming traffic. The new Cooper also gets updated rear LED lights flaunting a distinct Union Jack shape that pays a tribute to the brand’s British origins, now owned by the German luxury automaker - BMW. The new Mini logo gets flaunted on the car’s bonnet, hatch lid, central instrument display, steering wheel as well as on the remote control.
The new 2018 Mini Cooper models are offered for sale in three new body colour options, namely - Solaris Orange metallic, Starlit Blue metallic and Emerald Grey metallic.
Interior & Features
On the inside, the new 2018 Mini Cooper also gets updated. Mini has endowed new materials on the Cooper’s cabin. There is luxurious Leather Chester Malt seat upholstery, leather-wrapped, multi-functional steering wheel and sports seats as standard.
A backlit interior surface is offered as an option, while the Mini Excitement Pack option offers LED ambient lighting in twelve colours. There is also the Mini Wired package which has an 8.8 inch touchscreen infotainment system, 20GB internal storage, wireless charging and a 360W Harmon Kardon audio system.
Powertrain
Under the hood, the Mini Cooper S and Cooper S convertible get powered by a 2L 4-cylinder petrol mill generating 192 PS and 280 Nm, which gets paired to a new 7 speed double clutch Steptronic transmission gearbox. The Cooper S can do the 0-100kmph sprint in just 3.5 seconds, as per Mini and offer a top speed of 235kmph. A 7 speed dual clutch sports transmission option is available for the sportier lot. This gearbox has shorter ratios for more rapid acceleration.

The new 2018 Mini Cooper S, D and S convertible will be available for sale across the country at authorized Mini dealerships, starting from June 2018.
The Mini Cooper models come to India as fully imported cars, which is why they are pretty expensive. The new Mini Cooper range in India has a starting price of Rs. 29.70 lakhs, which goes up to Rs. 37.10 lakhs (ex-showroom, India).
