Japanese automaker, Isuzu Motors is trying to establish its name in the highly potential Indian market. However, the company is being cautious in this market by launching one product at a time. Isuzu gained customer interest with its D-Max commercial pickup truck, the MU-7 SUV and then the D-Max V-Cross adventure utility vehicle, and then it recently replaced the MU-7 with its mu-X SUV. Here, we take a look at the Isuzu mu-X SUV and its capabilities:

    Styling

The Isuzu mu-X takes design inspiration from the D-Max V-Cross pickup, which is quite evident from its tough and aggressive front fascia. The new mu-X SUV’s face is identical to the styling that V-Cross features upfront. The same huge chrome grille and bold headlights with projector lamps are flaunted by both the vehicles. However, the mu-X’s offers the added style with its black body cladding under its radiator grille and LED Daytime Running Lights. The side profile offers the full-fledged stance with wing mirrors finished in chrome and impressive 17 inch diamond cut alloy wheels. The design flaunts stylish wrap-around tail lights and a thick chrome strip.

    Interior

On the inside, the mu-X SUV offers a well designed cabin with features to offer a premium look and feel. The cabin is also similar to the D-Max V-Cross layout, but has marked differences as well. The SUV gets nice illuminated scuff plates, 7 inch touchscreen infotainment system, piano black finished inserts and leather covered parts. The overall fit and finish is good, while the SUV is highly practical as well with lots of storage spaces. The mu-X is a full-sized 7-seater SUV with 3 rows of comfortable seating and offers great space for all its equipments.

There is a 10 inch rear display for great in-car entertainment as well. However, the touchscreen infotainment system is not up to the mark and also lacks navigation.

The mu-X also offers features like cruise control, automatic climate control, push button start/stop and AWD system. The AWD system is also the same that the V-Cross offers and makes the mu-X a true hard-core off-roading prowess.

    Powertrain

The Isuzu mu-X packs in a 3 litre turbocharged mill offering 177 PS of power and 380 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 5 speed automatic transmission. While the engine offers decent performance, it is not refined and gets too noisy when pushed hard.

It is best for cruising speeds and offers agile and smooth handling that is impressive for this massive SUV. The mu-X also offers impressively smooth ride quality.

    Safety Equipments

The Japanese SUV comes braced with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, brake assist, ESP, traction control, hill start assist, skid plates and more on the safety front.

    Verdict

The Isuzu mu-X is a full-sized premium SUV which is well equipped for its asking price range of below Rs 25 lakhs, which is almost 5 lakhs cheaper than its massive competitors - Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. However, it is not actually comparable with the quality or features that the Fortuner or Endeavour offers. Its noisy engine is also a big downside. However, Isuzu mu-X can be a perfect companion to all who love a tough looking massive SUV with off-road handlong capabilities and an affordable price tag.
