The highly anticipated MG Hector has been officially unveiled today. MG Motors has debuted in the car market of India with the introduction of the Hector premium compact SUV.

The MG Hector has been drawing a lot of attention lately, due to its frequent sightings in various parts of India without camouflage. MG Motors had commenced production of the SUV at its manufacturing facility in Halol, Gujarat, which was previously owned by General Motors.
The MG Hector will be launching in India in June 2019. As was expected, the Hector is a smart, matured looking, up-market model and quite large for a compact SUV. In the Indian car market, the Hector will be locking its horns with many eminent rivals such as the Jeep Compass, Tata Harrier, Hyundai Tucson, and Mahindra XUV500.

The MG Hector is 4655mm long, 1835mm wide and 1760mm tall and rides on a wheelbase measuring 2750mm. The SUV offers a ground clearance of 192mm.
The Jeep Compass is 4395mm long, 1818mm wide and 1640mm high. It has a wheelbase measuring 2626mm and comes with a ground clearance of 178mm.
Thus, the Hector is quite larger than the Compass, and also offers a higher ground clearance.

The MG Hector will be offered for sale in both petrol and diesel versions.
Under the hood, the MG Hector petrol is equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that is good to generate a top power output of 141 BHPalong with 230 Nm of peak torque. The petrol mill gets paired with a 6-speed manual and a DCT automatic gearbox option.
The Hector also comes in a market with a 1.5-liter petrol-hybrid powertrain option, offering the same power figures as the regular petrol powertrain. It is equipped only with a 6-speed manual transmission.
On the other hand, the Hector diesel packs in the Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre Multijet diesel engine that has the capability to churn out a maximum power output of 167 BHP and 350 Nm of torque. The engine is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission.
The Jeep Compass petrol packs in a 1.4 liter, 4-cylinder, turbocharged ‘Multiair’ petrol mill that is capable of generating 159 BHP of top power along with 250 Nm of peak torque. The petrol mill comes with a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission option.
The Compass diesel gets powered by the same 2.0 liter Multijet diesel motor from its maker FCA, which has the capability to churn out a maximum power output of 167 BHP and 350 Nm of torque. The motor is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.
