New generation Renault Duster preparing for launch; specs details

by Mahesh Yadav on Friday, Dec 08 2017

One of the most internationally popular and important models for the French automaker Renault, is the Duster compact SUV. The Renault Duster that is also known as the Dacia Duster in some global markets has been a consistent volume drawer for the company. Renault recently unveiled the new generation Duster under its budget brand Dacia at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, while more recently the all new Duster wearing the Renault badge has been also unveiled. The Duster compact SUV was basically developed by Dacia on a low-cost platform meant specifically for the price-sensitive emerging car markets such as India and Latin America. The first generation model has been a huge success, and it established the Renault brand name for the first time India. Given the tougher market competition, the Duster’s demands have dwindled over time in India although it still remains a popular model. The 2018 new-gen Renault Duster with its all improved looks and qualities is expected to reestablish the model’s fame.

In India, the Duster wears the Renault badge, but the India made SUV has been also getting exported to various offshore markets rebadged as a Dacia model. The all new Renault Duster comes with a new bolder, refined and more aggressive visual appeal, while retaining the basic design language. It also offers more premium appeal both on the outside and on the inside.

Under the hood, the new-gen Duster SUV is going to come equipped with two petrol and one diesel engine options. The petrol mill choices include a 1.2L turbocharged unit offering 114PS and 156Nm, and a 1.6L naturally aspirated unit generating 125PS and 205Nm. The base 1.2L petrol mill gets mated to a 5 speed transmission and front-wheel drive system, while the higher 1.6L mill will be paired to a 6 speed transmission along with all-wheel drive system option. The diesel avatar of the new Duster will get powered by a 1.5L oil burner in two states of tune - 90PS/200Nm paired to a 6 speed manual transmission, and 110PS/260Nm coupled with a 6 speed automatic transmission and AWD system.

The 2018 Renault Duster will also offer improved fuel efficiency which is aided by the start-stop technology along with regenerative braking system as standard across the engine range. The all new Duster comes with new added tech as well, which includes the new MediaNav infotainment system along with surround view cameras which offers views of all four corners of the vehicle. Other features include automatic climate control, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, keyless entry and start, driver’s seat with height adjustability and lumbar support and new bi-cone speakers placed in the doors and dashboard housed tweeters to offer enhanced audio experience and in-car entertainment.

It is good to note, that these details are that of the international all new Dacia Duster SUV, and the Indian version will be differing in terms of features and other specs. Nevertheless, the new-gen India-spec Renault Duster is expected to look identical to the international model. For India, the new Duster is going to pack in only the 1.6L petrol and the 1.5L diesel options with a 5 and 6 speed manual transmission choice along with an AMT and CVT options.
