The MG Hector SUV has been finally introduced to India. MG Motors India has made its debut in the domestic car market with the unveiling of the Hector mid-size SUV, which is also the model’s world premiere.
The MG Hector has been a highly talked about upcoming SUV and it has marked China-based SAIC group’s entry in India. MG officially revealed Hector on 4th June on the same day, MG Motors India announced the commencement of the online booking for Hector. Now users can even test drive the vehicle. However, the prices of the vehicle are still speculated and not confirmed by the brand.
The MG Hector is an aggressively styled, smart looking, and feature-laden mid-size SUV model. It boasts of large dimensions and is larger than a few of its rivals in India.
The MG Hector is 4655mm long, 1835mm wide and 1760mm tall and rides on a wheelbase measuring 2750mm. The SUV offers a ground clearance of 192mm. Whereas, the Mahindra XUV500 is 4585mm long, 1890mm wide and 1785mm tall. This SUV comes on a wheelbase measuring 2700mm and has a ground clearance of 200mm.
MG Hector is longer in length with a slightly bigger wheelbase compared to the Mahindra XUV500 which means that it is more spacious on the inside. However, the width, height and ground clearance of Mahindra XUV500 is more than MG Hector.

Under the hood, the MG Hector petrol is equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that generates a maximum power output of 143 PS along with 250 Nm of peak torque. The petrol mill gets paired with a 6-speed manual and a DCT automatic transmission option.
The Hector will also come in a market first 1.5-liter petrol-hybrid powertrain choice, offering the same power and torque figures the regular petrol powertrain version. It will be paired only with a 6-speed manual transmission.
The Mahindra Compass petrol packs in a 2.2-liter mHawk petrol mill that is capable of generating 140 bhp of max power and 320 Nm of peak torque. The engine gets coupled with a 6-speed automatic torque converter gearbox.
Although the maximum power output of both petrol variants are comparable but Mahindra offers better torque figures compared to Hector’s.

The Hector diesel gets powered by the Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre Multijet diesel engine that pumps out a maximum power output of 167 bhp and 350 Nm of torque. The engine is equipped with only a 6-speed manual transmission. This is the same engine and specs that one can find on Jeep Compass.
The Mahindra XUV diesel gets powered by a 2.2-liter diesel motor that is good to offer a max power of 155 BHP along with a top torque of 360 Nm. The diesel engine gets paired with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission gearbox options.
MG Hector offers better figures in diesel engine comparison with Mahindra XUV500, however, there is no automatic transmission offered in Hector Diesel variant as of now.
