    New Skoda Kodiaq

The recently launched Skoda Kodiaq is the latest premium full-sized SUV in the Indian car market. It is a perfect package, as it gets everything right from styling to size to comfort. The Kodiaq looks smaller than its actual size and is more city friendly than its massive market rivals. The Kodiaq lacks the intimidating looks and massive appeal of the segment leaders Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour, but it makes up for these lacks with its highly alluring contemporary design language and sedan-like ride comfort, which is unheard of in its own segment.

The recently launched Skoda Kodiaq is the latest premium full-sized SUV in the Indian car market. It is a perfect package, as it gets everything right from styling to size to comfort. The Kodiaq lacks the intimidating looks and massive appeal of the segment leaders Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour, but it makes up for these lacks with its highly alluring contemporary design language and sedan-like ride comfort, which is unheard of in its own segment.

The Skoda Kodiaq’s cabin is pretty similar to the other Skoda models. It features the familiar steering wheel, dials, air-con controls, beige and dark grey two-tone colour scheme. It offers comfortable and well-supportive seating arrangement. The middle row is easily accessible which comes with a separate climate zone. The SUV offers split seats which can be slid forward up to 180 mm. the third row is a td cramped up, but pushing the middle row forward helps and seven adults can fit into this SUV pretty nicely.

The front seats offer an array of adjustments, while the low dashboard offers great visibility. The SUV also offers a good 270 litres boot space that can be expanded to up to a massive 2,005 litres with the rear rows folded down.

The Skoda Kodiaq is a feature-rich SUV as well and justifies its premium status in India. It comes loaded with features including a large 8 inch touchscreen infotainment system which is same as the one fount on the new Octavia. The infotainment unit offers navigation system and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. Other features include a 10 colour ambient light system, a premium Canton audio system with 12 speakers and much more.

The Czech automaker has also endowed some smart and convenient features on the Kodiaq, as it is its flagship model. These nifty features include a small dustbin in the door pocket, plastic “bumpers” which automatically pop out and protect the edges of the doors as they are opened, and a magnetized flashlight that can be stuck on the car body to offer visibility while changing a tyre. The SUV is high on safety and comes with as many as 9 airbags. The premium appeal is heightened by a huge panoramic sunroof, while driver assist systems like hands-free parking assist and a drowsiness sensor seal the deal.

The Skoda Kodiaq comes packed with a 2.0L 4-cylinder TDI mil in India that offers 150 hp and 340 Nm. The engine is refined and responsive and offers good performance. The great thing is that it feels like a luxury sedan to drive. It gets an AWD system and a light steering wheel and offers the benefits of a premium SUV, but offers the drive comfort of the Skoda Superb.

In short, the Skoda Kodiaq checks all the right boxes – striking style, rich equipment list, great comfort and driving ease. The top-end Kodiaq 4x4 TDI DSG variant is certainly a great luxurious SUV to own, but tagged at Rs.34.49 lakhs (ex-showroom, India) it is certainly expensive.
