Next-gen Mercedes-Benz CLA - all important details revealed

German luxury auto major Mercedes-Benz is preparing its new generation CLA to be introduced to the world. The second generation Mercedes-Benz CLA is nearing its global debut, and here are all the design, technical and powertrain details that we know so far.
Design
When the exterior design language is concerned, the next-gen Mercedes CLA looks like the slashed down version of the CLS along with some styling elements of the new-gen A-Class. However, upon closer look the changes on the side window area are noticed along with slightly bigger rear quarter window and the tapered design of the C-pillar. The more noticeable changes come in the form of the teardrop shaped LED headlights, a “predator” grille similar to the A-Class and a smooth flowing body design, as the creases have been ditched.
Interior
The previous CLA’s not-so wow interior quality has been all improved in the next-gen model. It comes endowed with the all new A-Class’ twin-digital displays, while the steering wheel comes straight from the flagship S-Class. Overall premium materials on the inside make things just befitting for a Merc model. The all new CLA will also offer better space owing to its larger dimensions (length and width) as compared against its predecessor.
Features
The all new 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLA will be endowed with the new MBUX infotainment system along with digital voice assistant, customizable 64 ambient lighting options and augmented-reality SatNav system which has a camera to display the road ahead and overlays directions over the image to assist with all the turns.
Powertrains
The next generation CLA is based on the MFA2 platform architecture and will share its powertrains with new A-Class hatchback. The engine range includes a 1.4L turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol engine offering 161 hp of power and 250 Nm of torque; a 1.5L 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel motor belting out 114 hp and 260 Nm; and a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder mill generating 221 hp and 350 Nm.
The generated power gets transmitted to the car’s front wheel drive system via a sophisticated 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, while there’s a 4Matic all wheel drive system option is also on higher trims.
;New CLA 35 & CLA 45/50
For the more power hungry public, Mercedes-AMG will be offering the CLA 45 or CLA50 powered by a new turbocharged 2.0L mill delivering over 400 hp. The top CLA model will boast of AWD system and 7-speed dual-clutch transmission as standard.
A milder version, CLA 35 is also expected as the company is preparing an A35 AMG version equipped with a 300 hp 2.0L turbocharged engine. If the CLA 35 comes, then it will nicely bridge the gaping void between the CLA250 and the upcoming CLA 45 or 50.
Market Rivals & Unveiling
The all new 2019 Mercedes-Benz CLA 4-door coupe won’t have actual direct rivals, but will fight with the the upcoming BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe, while other dissimilar rivals include the BMW’s 1-Series sedan and Audi A3. Moreover, the CLA’s similar sibling A-Class sedan is also its potential market rival.
The next-gen CLA is expected to have its world premiere at the 2018 Paris Motor Show, in October.
