The Nissan vehicles might be in great demand in the international markets, but the story is different in India. Till now, neither Nissan nor its budget-brand Datsun has been able to find good favour from the Indian car buyers. Nevertheless, the Japanese auto maker is not losing hope and is pulling up its socks to gain sales boost by planning to launch a slew of new models in India. Nissan’s top official has already confirmed that the company will be launching the Nissan Kicks SUV in India next year. The Kicks will be the first to start the fresh onslaught of new Nissan model launch in India.

The Nissan Kicks is a premium compact SUV model, which will be positioned in India above the Nissan Terrano SUV. Upon its Indian launch, the Kicks SUV will be rivaling against a whole lot of models which include the Mahindra XUV500, Hyundai Creta, Tata Hexa, Jeep Compass and its cousin, the upcoming Renault Captur.

Nissan launched the Kicks crossover in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro as the official car of the Summer Olympics. The global Nissan Kicks is based on the V platform, but this would mean it will be more expensive in India. Thus, Nissan has decided to cut down the costs of the Kicks by utilizing the M0 platform from its French partner Renault. This means the India-sepc Nissan Kicks will be sharing its platform with the Renault models like the Duster compact SUV, the Lodgy MPV and the soon to launch Captur premium compact SUV.

The Renault M0 platform will help Nissan to keep prices on check and price the Kicks aggressively in India to ensure it attracts more buyers. India being a price sensitive market, this decision is wise on the part of Nissan. The Kicks SUV will be locally manufactured at Nissan’s Chennai based facility in Oragadam.

Although Nissan Kicks will be based on the same platform as that of the several Renault models, it will have a very different styling for a distinctive visual appeal. The Indian version of the Kicks will have the same design language of the Brazil-spec model. The SUV flaunts Nissan's patent V-shaped front radiator grille, stylish wraparound headlights and attractively designed tail lights.

Being a more premium model, the Nissan Kicks is expected to pack in much more goodies as compared to its sibling Terrano SUV in India. The Kicks would come with a 7.0 inch infotainment system along with CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity options. The SUV will also offer a digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control and much more.

Under the hood, the Nissan Kicks will be packing in a familiar powertrain, which is the 1.5 liter K9K diesel motor. It is yet not known if the Kicks will be getting the same state of tune or Nissan will make it offer better power figures.

If Nissan can price the Kicks aggressively and brace it with a lengthy features list, then the compact SUV will everything to become a good sales volume drawer.
