Skoda and its German parent company Volkswagen are working on the huge plans for the Indian market, which has been entrusted on Skoda to lead. Skoda is currently developing the highly localized MQB AO IN platform in India which a modified version of the current MQB-A0 platform. A slew of new models from both Skoda and Volkswagen will be based on this localized platform for an aggressive new launch attack on the highly competitive Indian market. Among these new launches will be a new Skoda compact SUV that would go against the likes of the Hyundai Creta.
This new upcoming Skoda compact SUV has been recently rendered by well-known rendering artist Theophilus Chin, offering us an idea of what this new SUV would look like. The upcoming SUV will be the most affordable Skoda SUV in India and will be positioned under the flagship Kodiaq and the upcoming Karoq SUV. This new Skoda 5-seater SUV will also be getting a slightly more premium Volkswagen branded sibling with some individualized design changes to fight it out in Indian SUV market.
The rendered images of the upcoming Skoda compact SUV shows that the model could get styling inspiration from the larger siblings Kodiaq and Karoq. It is shown to flaunt the patent Skoda butterfly grille, LED headlights along with DRLs, and a large air dam offering an aggressive face.
The side profile is shown to have bold character lines running through the length of the vehicle, while a sculpted shape connects the door to the flared wheel arches. There are attractive 16 inch alloy wheels and roof rails to offer a proper SUV stance. A plastic body cladding all over SUV’s bottom adds to the rugged appeal.
The compact SUV’s rear design is shown to get the signature C-shaped LED tail lights similar to the Kodiaq’s.
We think that the upcoming Skoda compact SUV could be a great success, as it is shown to get styling cues from its bigger siblings in the rendered images. Another view is that this new SUV will share styling cues with the Vision X concept which received great attention as a design study. A combination of aggressive styling from the house of Skoda can really make this new SUV a star performer in India winning over the Indian customers.
This compact SUV is also expected to click in the India as the Indian 5-seater compact SUV market is really heating up. Moreover, the upcoming Skoda compact SUV is expected to be loaded with great features including a new infotainment unit and a panoramic roof among much more.
As this SUV will be based on the highly localized MQB AO IN platform it is likely to be aggressively priced. Moreover, it is expected to get powered by an all-new Volkswagen 1.0L turbocharged petrol mill which will also be manufactured in India. If this really happens then, the SUV could come with killer price range that would enhance its market success rates greatly.
Hence, we are really looking forward to this upcoming Skoda compact SUV, which ticks all the right boxes of aggressive styling, compact urban design, feature-rich interior, up-class appeal and competitive pricing.
The only down point is that this SUV is not expected to launch in India until 2020. Don’t you think that’s pretty late?
