Here we compare the prices of the 2020 Seltos's variants and the features to tell you which variant is the most Value For Money (VFM). Then we will compare the engine specs, dimensions and fuel efficiency of the 2020 Kia Seltos with its competitors and other C-Segment petrol SUVs.

    Kia Seltos Petrol variants explained

What Is The Price Of The 2020 Kia Seltos?

The Kia Seltos just got a price hike in June 2020. The price hike varies between Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 25,000. The HTE variant, which is the most affordable and the GTX Plus, which is the most expensive, didn’t get a price hike and still costs Rs. 9.89 lakh and Rs. 17.29 lakh, respectively.

The most affordable variant with the turbo petrol engine, GTK, is no longer available. Turbo petrol is only available in GTX and GTX Plus variants. The automatic transmission is only available in the top variants - CVT for HTX with the 1.5-litre petrol engine and DCT for GTX Plus with the 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine.

However, it’s worth noting that the turbo petrol engine also gets some cosmetic, safety and function feature upgrades in that price.

Since the prices of the most affordable and the most expensive variants remain unchanged the price range too remains the same. Seltos’ prices range between Rs. 9.89 lakh and Rs. 17.29 lakh (ex-showroom).

Now let’s go through each petrol variant of the Kia Seltos one-by-one to see which one offers the best value for money starting with the HTE 1.5L MT.

Is The HTE Variant Of 2020 Kia Seltos Petrol Worth Buying?

The HTE variant is only available with a 1.5-litre petrol engine and a 6-speed manual transmission. It costs Rs. 9.89 lakh (ex-showroom). Notable features of the base variant of the Seltos petrol are:

    • Mandatory safety kit (2 airbags, ABS, rear parking sensors)
    • Projector halogen headlamps
    • Music system with steering-mounted controls
    • Tilt steering
    • Front armrest
    • Rear AC vents
    • Remote central locking
    • Height-adjustable driver seat

With these features, the base variant is alright for budget buyers. The only major miss is electrically adjustable outside mirrors. A sub-Rs. 10.0 lakh price not only has a psychological advantage but also helps keep registration costs in certain states. This variant is a good value for money. For 1.5-litre petrol MT buyers, this is our top pick.

Is The HTK Variant Of 2020 Kia Seltos Petrol Worth Buying?

The HTK variant of the 2020 Kia Seltos petrol costs Rs. 10.49 lakh after the June 2020 price hike - Rs. 60,000 more than the HTE. It adds the following notable features to the mix:

    • 8-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple Carplay
    • Rear camera
    • Projector fog lamps
    • Electrically adjustable outside mirrors
    • Boot lamp

This variant doesn’t justify the incremental cost of Rs. 60,000 over the HTE variant so, we’d suggest you consider the HTE or a higher variant for better value.

Is The HTK Plus Variant Of 2020 Kia Seltos Petrol Worth Buying?

The HTK Plus variant costs Rs. 1.1 lakh more than the HTK variant and is priced at Rs. 11.59 lakh (ex-showroom). For that sum, you get additional features like:

    • Rear washer and wiper
    • Rear defogger
    • Cruise control
    • Auto-folding outside mirrors
    • Automatic headlamps
    • Rear door sunshades
    • 16-inch alloy wheels
    • LED DRLs
    • Rear parcel tray

For these features, the HTK Plus variant once again disappoints in terms of value. Although it isn’t absurdly overpriced, it doesn’t quite justify the premium with its additional features. If you are looking for a better value for money variant, then consider the higher HTX variant.

Is The HTX Variant Of 2020 Kia Seltos Petrol Worth Buying?

The HTX variant of the Kia Seltos petrol costs Rs. 13.34 lakh, which is Rs. 1.75 lakh more. The price jump is substantial for the HTX but so is the feature list. Some of its high-value features are:

    • LED head and tail lamps
    • LED fog lamps
    • 25-inch touchscreen
    • Internet-connected features
    • Split rear seatback
    • Tyre pressure monitoring system
    • Automatic AC
    • Telescopic steering
    • Key fob remote engine start (AT only)
    • Electric sunroof
    • Ambient lighting
    • Reclining rear seatback
    • Air purifier
    • 17-inch alloy wheels

Unfortunately, none of the lower variants of the Seltos come with something as basic as automatic AC. So, if you want a well-equipped version, then the HTX variant is the best bet as it’s also very well priced. This is our top recommendation for buyers who want a premium experience from the Seltos ownership.

The HTX variant is also available with the option of a CVT automatic transmission. It adds Rs. 1.0 lakh to the ex-showroom cost. The HTX CVT automatic costs Rs. 14.34 lakh. Not that you have much of a choice if you want the Seltos with an automatic transmission, it’s good to note that it’s well priced. Rs. 1.0 lakh premium for the automatic transmission is also acceptable. Not to mention, it’s available in our favourite variant. So, HTX with or without the CVT automatic gets our wholehearted approval.

Is The GTX Variant Of 2020 Kia Seltos Petrol Worth Buying?

The GTX variant MT is the next available option in the Kia Seltos lineup. Compared to the HTX, it is Rs. 2.2 lakh more expensive. It gets a 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine with higher power and torque output. Additional features of the GTX variant are:

    • Rear disc brakes
    • 2 Front thorax airbags
    • 2 Side curtain airbags
    • Automatic wipers
    • Electronic stability control
    • Hill-start assist
    • 8-inch head-up display
    • UV resistant windows
    • Metal pedals
    • 7-inch coloured display in instrument cluster

The GTX variant doesn’t justify the 2.2 lakh premium for the additional features even after considering the additional power and torque from the turbo petrol engine. The features add up to about Rs. 1.2 lakh in justifiable premium. So, if you’re comfortable paying about Rs. 1.0 lakh for the better performance, then you can get the GTX variant. In our books, it’s not a value-for-money upgrade for most buyers. If you do want this performance and good value too, then consider the GTX Plus trim.

Is The GTX Plus Variant Of 2020 Kia Seltos Petrol Worth Buying?

The GTX Plus variant is Rs. 85,000 more expensive than the GTX variant. It costs Rs. 16.39 lakh ex-showroom with the manual transmission. With the automatic transmission, the cost jumps another Rs. 90,000 to Rs. 17.29 lakh.

Notable features of the GTX Plus variant are:

    • Bose music system
    • Remote engine start/stop (Automatic only)
    • Blind-spot monitoring
    • Traction control (Automatic only)
    • 8-way power-adjustable driver seat
    • Multiple driving modes
    • Ventilated front seats
    • Front parking sensors

If you must buy the Seltos’ turbo petrol engine, then the GTX Plus is your best option in terms of value for money. The automatic transmission is a 7-speed dual-clutch type and it’s very attractively priced - only Rs. 90,000 higher. For that sum, it also gets a couple of exclusive features. The GTX Plus variant, with or without the automatic transmission, is our top recommendation for those who want the turbo petrol engine’s performance.

Which Variant Of The 2020 Kia Seltos Petrol Offers The Most Value For Money?

The HTE variant of the Kia Seltos petrol is very aggressively priced at just under Rs. 10 lakh. It’s tough to beat that value proposition. It’s our top pick for budget buyers. If you want some luxuries, then get the HTX variant as the middle two variants don’t offer similar value with the features.

Those who want the turbo performance should note that it doesn’t come cheap. There’s about Rs. 1.0 lakh difference between the GTX and HTX variants, which the features can’t cover. If you are okay paying that premium, then consider the higher GTX Plus variant for its luxury touches.

If you want the Kia Seltos with the automatic transmission, then you’re stuck with either the HTX with 1.5-litre petrol engine and CVT automatic and the 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine with the DCT automatic. They’re both reasonably priced over their comparable MT variants, that too in the variants that offer good value for money. So, the simple choice you’ll have to make is whether you want to get the turbo petrol or the normal petrol engine.
