What Are The Pros And Cons Of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Petrol?
The pros or advantages of Ertiga petrol 2020 are:
- A wide service network and easily available spares and competent mechanics
- Strong resale value
- The most affordable car spacious enough for 7 adults
- Fuel-efficient hybrid petrol engine
- CNG option for buyers will high-mileage requirements
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga petrol 2020 has the following shortcomings or problems:
- Renault Triber offers more flexibility and boot space with removable third-row seats - that too at a lower price
- Taxi image will turn off some buyers (For such buyers, XL6 is better)
- No diesel engine option
- CNG Ertiga has a terrible torque-to-weight ratio of 99Nm/tonne. Especially with a full load, it will need some revving on inclines and highways
- Automatic transmission is of the vintage torque converter type and that too with only 4 gears

Is The LXI Variant Of 2020 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Petrol Worth Buying?
The base LXI variant costs Rs. 7.59 lakh (ex-showroom). Standard features on the base trim are:
- Safety kit (2 airbags, ABS, parking sensors)
- All power windows
- Air-cooled cup holders
- Sliding and reclining second row
- Reclining third row
- Tilt steering
- Black front grille
- Manual AC
- 60-40 split second-row and 50-50 split third-row seatbacks
- Halogen projector headlamps
- Tilt steering
- Body-colour bumpers
- Black door handles and mirrors
Notable omissions in the LXI variant are:
- Rear AC vents
- Day/night inside mirror
- Music system
- Steering-mounted controls
- Remote for central locking
- Power mirrors
While most of these features can be added aftermarket, the biggest missing feature here is rear AC vents. For a car of this size, rear AC vents are absolute must-haves even if you only occasionally use the third row. Without this feature, we can’t recommend the LXI variant even to budget buyers. Buy the LXI variant only if you absolutely can’t stretch for the VXI variant or you don’t need the AC all that much for your local climate. Otherwise, the Ertiga LXI is not recommended.

Is The VXI Variant Of 2020 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Petrol Worth Buying?
The VXI variant of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga costs Rs. 8.34 lakh, which is Rs. 75,000 more than the LXI variant. There’s also a CNG fuel option in this variant, which costs another Rs. 61,000 over the VXI petrol MT’s cost. VXI is the most affordable Ertiga variant with automatic transmission. Additional cost for this convenience is Rs.1.02 lakh, which is a good deal considering that the automatic also gets ESC and hill start assist.
Here are all the notable additional features of the Ertiga VXI variant over LXI:
- Day/night inside mirror
- Music system
- Steering mounted controls
- 2nd row AC vents
- Remote central locking
- Power mirrors with power folding
- Second-row armrest
- Chrome grille
- Full-colour MID (not in CNG)
- Wheel covers
- ESC and hill start assist (only in AT)
- Body colour door handles and mirrors
The VXI variant is a little expensive for the additional cost over the LXI variant. However, it is a good option for budget buyers as it gets a lot of must-have features. The CNG and VXI AT variant also get a ‘buy’ recommendation from us. If you’re looking for better value, then consider the ZXI variant instead.

Is The ZXI Variant Of 2020 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Petrol Worth Buying?
The ZXI variant of the Ertiga petrol MT costs Rs. 9.17 lakh, which is Rs. 83,000 more than the VXI MT. The ZXI automatic costs Rs. 10.13 lakh, which is Rs. 77,000 more expensive than the VXI automatic. The price difference between the ZXI manual and automatic is only Rs. 96,000, which is again a good price considering the 2 extra safety features - ESC and hill hold.
For this ~Rs. 80k price jump over the VXI variant, you get the following notable features:
- Rear defogger
- Front fog lamps
- Rear washer and wiper
- Front armrest
- Height-adjustable driver seat
- Automatic AC
- Third-row power socket
- Alloy wheels
This variant is the only one that justifies its higher asking price over the LXI variant with its feature list. The Ertiga ZXI - with the automatic or manual transmission - is our top recommended variant and is a good value for money.

Is The ZXI Plus Variant Of 2020 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Petrol Worth Buying?
The ZXI Plus variant is the top option in the Ertiga lineup and it’s only available with a manual transmission. This variant costs Rs. 54,000 more than the ZXI and is priced at Rs. 9.71 lakh. For this extra sum, you only get a parking camera, touchscreen infotainment and steering wheel wrap. You can get all of these features from the aftermarket for about half this asking price. This is not an upgrade even worth considering. The ZXI remains our top pick and the Ertiga ZXI Plus is not worth buying.

Which Variant Of The 2020 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Petrol Offers The Most Value For Money?
The LXI variant of the Ertiga petrol is not worth considering as it doesn’t get many must-have features. But the biggest missing feature is the rear AC vent. Such a big car meant to carry 7 occupants should absolutely have rear AC vents. Buy the LXI variant only if you live in colder regions and you don’t want to stretch your budget further.
The VXI variant is the bare minimum worth considering and it is not a bad value offering either. The VXI variant of the Ertiga petrol also has an automatic transmission and CNG options and they both are worth buying.
Based on the estimated cost of features added, the ZXI variant offers the best value for money in the entire lineup. The ZXI variant is the top-recommended variant and definitely worth buying. The Ertiga’s ZXI Plus variant is not worth buying as it offers poor value in terms of features over the ZXI variant for the incremental cost.

What Are The Engine Specifications Of The 2020 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Petrol?
The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga 2020 has 1.5-litre hybrid petrol with CNG option in the VXI variant. The petrol engine makes 105PS of power and 138Nm of torque. When running on CNG, it makes 92PS of power and 122Nm of torque.
This means it has a torque-to-weight ratio of 99Nm/tonne, which is comparable with the Kwid 0.8’s figure of 98Nm/tonne. This figure is poor by any standards for a car this expensive. So, don’t expect it to pull at low revs like the petrol engine - especially when you’re carrying a full load of passengers. Even then, be prepared to rev this engine quite a bit. But, you will enjoy lower running costs as the CNG variant will cost about half to run than the petrol engine.

What Are The Dimensions Of The 2020 Maruti Suzuki Ertiga?
To give you a perspective of its dimensions, let’s see how it compares against the smaller Renault Triber and the Toyota Innova Crysta - the other 2 petrol MPVs.
The Ertiga is about 40cm larger than the Triber and about a foot smaller than the Crysta. In terms of width, the Ertiga is comparable with the Triber but it’s almost 10cm narrower than the Innova. The wheelbase, though, is comparable with the Innova and only 10mm shorter.
The Maruti Ertiga 2020 has an acceptable ground clearance of 185mm. With all seats up, it has better boot space too - 209 litres vs 84 litres in Triber. It’s still about 100 litres less than the Innova. Once you fold/remove the last row though, the Triber beats the Ertiga with 75 litres more space - 625 litres vs 550 litres in Ertiga. The tyre size of the Ertiga is the same as the Triber’s top variant’s tyre size.
