What Are The Engine Specifications Of The 2020 Renault Kwid Facelift BS6?

The 2020 Renault Kwid facelift retains its 2 engine options, which were also available in pre-facelift Kwid. Their power and torque output remain the same as before. The 0.8-litre Kwid makes 54PS of power and 72Nm of torque. Compared to the Alto 800, it has better power and torque output. But, the Alto’s torque peaks at 3500rpm, which should make it much easier to drive in the city. The Kwid’s torque peaks at 4386rpm - 886rpm higher than the Alto 800.

The 1.0-litre engine of the Kwid makes 68PS of power and 91Nm of torque. These figures are on par with the segment leader - Maruti Suzuki S-Presso. However, once again, the Kwid’s torque peaks higher in the rev band at 4250rpm compared to the S-Presso which makes its peak torque at 3500rpm.

In terms of fuel efficiency, the Renault Kwid is pretty much at the top in its class with both the engines. Since the Redi-GO also uses the same engines, expect its facelift to also have similar figures.

What Are The Dimensions Of The 2020 Renault Kwid Facelift BS6?

The Renault Kwid’s ground clearance of 184  is almost at the top in the category. It’s right up there with the Redi-GO’s figure of 185mm. The Kwid also has the longest wheelbase and it’s also the widest among its peers. It also has the largest boot. But it’s not as tall as the S-Presso. A taller car is easier to get into and out of.

STD 0.8 MT Variant

The Standard variant is the most affordable at Rs. 2.92 lakh (ex-showroom). Even the lowest variant will get you some fancy features like:

  • Updated LED instrument cluster
  • Digital tachometer
  • Gear position indicator
  • Driver airbag
  • ABS
  • Body-coloured bumpers
  • LED DRLs
  • LED tail lamps
  • Parking sensors
  • Wheel arch cladding
  • 14-inch wheels (165/70 R14)

While it doesn’t get some must-have features, it’s nice to see that it doesn’t look cheap from the outside. LED DRLs and tail lamps and body-coloured bumpers are some of the features, which are usually reserved for the top variant. So, if you’re interested in buying the Kwid for its style and can live without power steering, AC, heater, then this is a good buy. However, we’d suggest you spend some more and get one of the higher variants for a richer experience.

RXE 0.8 MT Variant

The RXE variant costs Rs. 3.62 lakh - Rs. 70,000 more. For this sum, the biggest addition is air conditioning. It is quite an expensive upgrade and you still don’t get power steering. It’s better to skip it as it’s not a good value for money.

RXL 0.8 MT Variant

The 2020 Renault Kwid’s RXL variant costs Rs. 3.92 lakh - Rs. 30,000 more than the RXE variant. The notable additional features of the RXL variant are:

  • Remote central locking
  • Music system with Bluetooth, FM, Aux, USB
  • Front power windows
  • Power steering
  • Wheel Covers

This variant is a decent-enough package to satisfy most budget buyers’ needs. So, this is our recommendation for Kwid buyers interested in the 0.8-litre petrol engine.

RXT 0.8 MT Variant

The RXT 0.8 variant of the Renault Kwid facelift costs Rs. 4.22 lakh - Rs. 30,000 more than the RXL 0.8 variant. For this sum, it offers notable extra features like:

  • Rear parking camera
  • 8-inch touchscreen
  • Android Auto and Apple Carplay
  • Rear power outlet
  • USB charger
  • Navigation
  • Rear parcel tray
  • Chrome grille

This variant is also a good upgrade over the RXL 0.8. It justifies the premium over the RXL variant but if you want the touchscreen infotainment system. However, if you can afford, then it’d be better to consider the more powerful 1.0. Else, consider sticking with the  RXL variant if you can manage without the touchscreen infotainment.

RXT 1.0 MT & AMT Variants

The RXT 1.0 variant of the Kwid doesn’t add any new features to the mix. But, it’s the most affordable variant with the more powerful 1.0-litre engine. For the improvement in performance alone, Renault will charge you another Rs. 20,000. We believe it’s totally worth the cost. It also doesn’t compromise on the fuel efficiency part. So, you get similar fuel efficiency as the RXT 0.8.

If you were considering the RXT 0.8 variant of the Kwid, then it’s totally worth buying the RXT 1.0.

If you want the Renault Kwid with an automatic transmission, then again, the RXT is your most affordable option. The RXT automatic costs Rs. 4.72 lakh - Rs. 30,000 more than RXT 1.0 MT. That’s a very small sum to pay for the convenience of automatic transmission. This is also an amazing value for money. Hence, the RXT 1.0, with and without the automatic transmission, is our top recommended variant.

Climber MT & AMT Variants

The Climber MT variant of the Renault Kwid costs Rs. 4.64 lakh - about Rs. 21,000 more than the RXT 1.0. The Climber automatic costs Rs. 4.94 lakh - another Rs. 30,000 more than the Climber MT.

The most notable additions to the Climber over the RXT are:

  • Rear armrest
  • Door cladding
  • Stylish steel wheels
  • Orange accents

It mostly adds cosmetic features, which are listed in the table. If you like these features, then you can buy this variant as it justifies the price upgrade. However, because of the limited number of functional and safety features, we’d suggest you ignore this variant and go for the RXT variant instead.

2020 Renault Kwid Facelift BS6 - Option Pack

Renault is offering an optional kit with, both, manual and automatic transmissions of the 1.0-litre engine. It costs Rs. 7,700 and adds passenger side front airbag and rear power windows. We highly recommend getting it regardless of whether you buy the Climber or the RXT 1.0 variant. It’s a fantastic value for money.

Which Variant Of The 2020 Renault Kwid Facelift 0.8 Is The Best Value For Money?

The Standard variant is an amazing value for the price. However, the lack of must-have features like power steering and AC keeps us from recommending this variant. If you can manage without these features and love the Kwid’s styling but are limited by the budget, then this is as good as it gets.

The RXE 0.8 variant adds the AC but for a big sum, which is difficult to justify. So, it’s not a good value. The RXL 0.8 variant is the one that covers the basics well and is the one to get if you want the Renault Kwid with the 0.8-litre petrol engine.

The RXT 0.8 is a decent upgrade over the RXL 0.8, but once you get this far, then the RXT 1.0 makes more sense. A larger engine gives you more power and torque without compromising on fuel efficiency. Not to mention, the price jump of just Rs. 20,000 is a small price to pay for the performance improvements it’ll offer.

Which Variant Of The 2020 Renault Kwid Facelift 1.0 Is The Best Value For Money?

The Kwid facelift’s 1.0-litre engine is available from Rs. 4.42 lakh in the RXT variant. This variant, along with the option pack costs Rs. 4.5 lakh and is our top recommended variant of the 2020 Kwid. The RXT (O) adds 2 must-have features for a nominal sum of Rs. 7,700.

The RXT (O) automatic is also our top recommendation if you want an automatic transmission. It costs Rs. 4.8 lakh.

The Climber variant is for those who want their Kwid to stand out. It’s a style upgrade over the RXT variant, so we’ll leave it up to you to decide if you should go for it or not. But if you do, then definitely go for the option pack. Climber (O) MT costs Rs. 4.71 lakh and Climber (O) AT costs Rs. 5.01 lakh.
