When Ford decided that the V6 mill is going to be dropped on its iconic Mustang and the 2.3 liter EcoBoost engine is going to be the entry-level engine, the decision perplexed some auto enthusiasts. Although the V6 engine is certainly not making a comeback on the Ford Mustang, at least in near future, reports indicate that the upcoming new Mustang model might get a third engine option to fill in the gap between the base 2.3L EcoBoost and the Mustang GT’s massive 5.0L V8 mills.
Reports say that as per a recent National Highway Traffic Safety Administration filing Ford has filed for two engine codes for the 2.3L EcoBoost. One of these shows power output of 310 hp with 93-octane, which is the power figures of the EcoBoost engine on the ongoing model of the Mustang. However, the second code filing shows TBD. As per the sources close to the development, this is indicates that the upcoming new 2020 Ford Mustang will have a second EcoBoost turbocharged engine, which will generate more power than the base engine option, but will certainly offer less than the range-topping V8 engine option.
As per the reports, Ford is aiming to offer a second 2.3 liter EcoBoost engine option that will be capable of offering a maximum power output that would outshine the 335 hp output of the 3.6 liter V6 mill that powers the Chevrolet Camaro. Considering everything, it seems like the 350 hp EcoBoost engine which used to power the discontinued Ford Focus RS would be the most apt mill to fit the bill. When the media contacted Ford to offer more details or to comment on this rumoured development, a Ford spokesperson only commented by saying that that company is constantly working to enhance the Mustang, and will be revealing more exciting details this spring.
While the expected more powerful EcoBoost engine option on the new 2020 Ford Mustang model continues to be a mystery, what is certainly known is that the new upcoming Mustang will certainly be highly interesting. The 2020 model of the Mustang is already known to be making the Mustang aficionados excited with the Mustang Shelby GT500’s comeback.
As per Ford the Mustang Shelby GT500, which gets powered by a 5.2 liter aluminum alloy V8 engine that has been empowered by a 2.65 liter supercharger and gets paired with a sophisticated Tremec 7 speed dual-clutch transmission is going to offer more than 700 hp. The Mustang Shelby is also expected to offer do the 0-60 mph sprint in just over 3 seconds while reach a speed of quarter-mile in under 11 seconds. The Ford Mustang Hybrid variant is also slated to hit the international markets in 2020.
The Ford Mustang that is also fondly called the pony car enjoys an iconic position in the global auto industry. The Mustang is loved and revered across the globe and the American auto major is always putting great efforts to keep the legacy of the Mustang ongoing. From whatever details have been obtained about the new 2020 Ford Mustang, we can safely say that the Mustang will not be disappointing its global fans, and will come adequately braced with enough updates and interesting bits to keep everyone happy.
