    Fiat preparing a SUV based on the Jeep Compass which will be its rival

    Italian auto major Fiat is preparing a new SUV model that will be based on the Jeep Compass which recently launched in India. According to the reports, this new upcoming Compass based SUV could make its way to the Indian car market. Reports say that the Jeep Compass’ platform will be used by Jeep’s parent company Fiat in order to roll out a new SUV under its own brand name. Apart from the Compass’ platform Jeep will also be offering some other mechanical parts for the new planned SUV from Fiat. Although it is too early to comment on the probable launch period of this new Fiat SUV, as per the reports, the Italian auto major is hopeful about offering this new SUV quite soon.

Apart from the Compass’ platform Jeep will also be offering some other mechanical parts for the new planned SUV from Fiat. Although it is too early to comment on the probable launch period of this new Fiat SUV, as per the reports, the Italian auto major is hopeful about offering this new SUV quite soon.

    The new Fiat SUV on the anvil will be supported greatly by Fiat’s subsidiary, the iconic American SUV brand Jeep when development is concerned. Fiat owns Chrysler, which is the parent company of Jeep. Car platforms from are underpinning by new Jeep SUVs. The Fiat Small Wide platform has been used to develop the Jeep Compass and Jeep Renegade models. The new upcoming Fiat SUV that is being discussed here will be based on the Compass and will also rival the same if and when launched in India. The Jeep Compass was launched in India on 31st of July this year and has already crossed 10,000 units sales mark. The upcoming Fiat SUV will also be pitched against the popular Mahindra XUV500 upon its Indian launch.

    Fiat had plans to introduce this new SUV globally in 2016, but the project was put on hold, as the company shifted its focus to other new projects like the Argo hatchback, the upcoming new X6S sedan and more.

    Speculations have it that the new SUV will get styling cues from the Torro pick-up truck. The Torro pick-up shares several specifications and platform with the Jeep Compass, and thus, the new Fiat SUV will be sharing parts, design cues and more with the Torro and Compass.

    The new upcoming Fiat SUV is speculated to be getting powered by a 1.8 petrol engine, which has the capability to churn out a max power output of 138 hp. It would reportedly be available in both petrol and diesel avatar and will get equipped with the Multi-jet diesel powertrain which has the ability to deliver a max power of 170 hp.

    While the petrol engine of the new SUV is expected to get paired with a 6 speed automatic transmission gearbox, the diesel motor is likely to get mated to a 9 speed automatic or a 6 Speed manual transmission gearbox. The petrol version is expected to come with a front-wheel drive system, while the diesel version is likely to be offered in both front-wheel and four-wheel drive system options.

    In terms of features, the new Fiat SUV is speculated to come packed with 5 inch Uconnect infotainment system, reverse camera and parking sensors, panoramic roof and 7 airbags among others.
