Ford is reportedly busy developing a new platform for the emerging car markets including India; and this new platform is said to be underpinning a slew of new car models. As per the latest reports, the new platform on the anvil from Ford has been codenamed as the B563 and it will be underpinning a range of brand new models in the premium hatchback and mid-size sedan segments. The reports also say that the very first model which will be based on this new platform will be a potent rival of the highly successful Maruti Suzuki Baleno.

The new upcoming Maruti Baleno rival from the house of Ford will be placed above the Ford Figo hatchback. The American auto major is expected to offer a new mid-sized sedan model following the new premium hatchback model, which is set to replace the Fiesta. The Ford Fiesta was pulled off the Indian car market back in 2015 owing to low sales. The upcoming all-new Ford premium sedan will be rivaling the popular and segment ruling Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Honda City.

As per the reports, these new upcoming premium hatchback and sedan models will be getting equipped by the company’s Ford's new world class Dragon family of petrol engines. These are expected to make their world debut in India towards the end of 2017. The new Dragon engine range is highly advanced and more eco-friendly. The Dragon range will be able to meet the stricter Real Driving Emissions testing cycle which will come into effect in 2023, but the current Ford 1.5 litre diesel mill might not get updated to be able to meet the stricter emission norms and could be phased out by the automaker.

Coming back to the new Ford platform, the new B563 platform is based on the Ford’s current B562 platform on which the current Figo hatch and Figo Aspire compact sedan are based. This way the development cost can be kept down to ensure competitive pricing for the upcoming vehicles for the developing car markets. In order to make sure that there the new platform does not overlaps the models of the current B562 platform, Ford will be repositioning the Figo and Aspire models to a segment below which they currently belong in the car market of India. For this the American auto major is expected to give an extensive facelift to both these models and reintroduce them to the Indian market, probably with more competitive pricing.

Ford’s plans to offer brand new premium hatchback model and to re-enter the midsize premium sedan segment of India will prove to be profitable for the American car maker, as both these segments are growing more popular in India. These two new car models will also help Ford India strengthen its portfolio and positioning in the country apart from boosting its sales considerably. Ford only has a mere three percent market share in the vast and potential Indian auto industry, and it would be a good idea for the automaker to bring these two models soon to grab more shares.
