Japanese automaker Maruti Suzuki is planning to strengthen their SUV line-up in India. In order to enhance the SUV portfolio, the manufacturer might launch the Grand Vitara SUV in the Indian market. Expected to be the most expensive model under the Nexa line-up, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara will be the fourth model under Maruti’s premium range retailed through Nexa apart from Baleno, S-Cross and Ignis. The new Grand Vitara is likely to be placed above the S-Cross. However, there has been no confirmation regarding the launch of the SUV in India by Maruti-Suzuki but according to the reports in the market, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara might be launched by the mid of this year itself.

Under the hood, the new Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara will offer the same Fiat-sourced 1.6 DDiS Turbo Diesel engine that powers the S-Cross producing 120PS power and 320Nm of peak torque. Mated to six speed manual transmission, the Grand Vitara could also offer Suzuki’s AllGrip AWD system.

In terms of designing, the new Grand Vitara will be similar to the Maruti Suzuki Vitara but the Grand Vitara looks sportier and muscular than its predecessor with the stylish bumper and sleeker headlamps. Providing it a premium touch are features like indicators on the ORVMs, body colored door handles and flared wheel arches.  However, the taillamps and skid plate finishing doesn’t impress at the rear. Inside, the Grand Vitara shares its steering wheel with Brezza. Apart from this, the interior looks premium with an all-black theme with silver accents. The analogue clock placed in the middle of central aircon vents, a touchscreen infotainment system, a multi-function steering wheel and leather upholstery are the other premium features to be offered on the new Grand Vitara.

It will be interesting to see when Maruti Suzuki makes the official announcement about the launch of Grand Vitara and how much it succeeds in impressing its customers. Although the vehicle looks promising but the pricing will be a very important factor in the success of the SUV in the Indian market. Maruti Suzuki has earlier failed to attract customers for Kizashi because of wrong pricing. However, if launched, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara will take against the likes of SUVs such as Hyundai Creta, Tata Hexa and Mahindra XUV500.
