The Kia Seltos is set to launch in India on 22 August 2019, and its fuel efficiency figures have been revealed ahead of launch. The Seltos will be available with both petrol and diesel engines in India. There will be two petrol engines on offer -- a 1.5-litre unit and a 1.4-litre, turbocharged engine. Apart from the petrol engines, there will be a 1.5-litre diesel engine as well.
Both the 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines will develop 115PS of maximum power and will be available with both manual and automatic transmission options. While the 1.5-litre petrol engine will be available with a CVT automatic, the diesel engine will come paired with a torque-converter type automatic transmission.
The rumour mill suggests that with the manual gearbox, the Seltos’ 1.5-litre petrol engine will return a certified fuel efficiency of 16.4kmpl, and with the automatic, its fuel efficiency will drop by 0.1kmpl. The 1.5-litre diesel engine will return a claimed fuel efficiency of 20.8kmpl with the manual transmission and 17.8kmpl with the automatic.
The 1.4-litre, turbocharged petrol engine will return a claimed fuel efficiency of 16.1kmpl with the manual transmission and with the automatic transmission, the figure will go up by 0.1kmpl. Both the 1.4-litre and 1.5-litre petrol engines return a near-identical claimed FE. It will be interesting to see if the turbocharged engine will be as fuel efficient as the 1.5-litre unit in real-world conditions or not. The 1.4-litre engine will develop over 140PS of maximum power, significantly higher than that of the 1.5-litre unit.

The Seltos engines will be BS6 compliant at launch. These engines will also make their on to Hyundai cars, including the upcoming 2020 Creta. It must be noted that Kia is yet to officially announce the fuel efficiency figures of the Seltos.
