Volkswagen is working on the launch of the T-Cross in the Indian market. However, the official launch date has not been revealed yet, the upcoming compact SUV has been leaked online revealing the exterior design on the upcoming SUV. The details have come out with the image of a production version leaked on the internet. The world debut of the T-Cross has been scheduled for later this year and it is expected to go on sale in the European market at the same time.
The leaked image shows the design and feature details of the upcoming VW T-Cross compact SUV. Based on the T-Cross Breeze concept, the T-Cross follows the design language of the T-Roc with additional larger and wider grille, squared fog lamps, diamond cut alloy wheels and a receding roofline. The vehicle will measure about 4.2 metres in length and it looks compact in the image as well. Though, it is not clear about the India bound T-Cross but internationally the compact SUV will come underpinned by the VW’s most popular MQB AO platform, which also underpins the new generation Polo by the automaker. This platform will be developed by Skoda India and will spawn a range of future Skoda and Volkswagen cars in India. According to the reports, the VW could develop the India-spec T-Cross on a more affordable platform to keep costs low and prices competitive.
Though the interior of the upcoming VW T-Cross has not been revealed yet, the compact SUV is likely to borrow a lot of interior hues from the other VW cars available currently. The list of features to be offered with the five-seater includes the all-digital instrument console, MirrorLink infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with a host of other numerous features. It will also get Active Info Digital Display Cockpit and several customization options for both the exterior and cabin and the company is also aiming to offer more space for rear occupants. Priced a lot cheaper than the Tiguan within the VW family, the T-Cross will be positioned below the T-ROC in Volkswagen’s global SUV line-up.
In terms of powertrain, the VW T-Cross will be offered in both petrol and diesel variants along with the hybrid option. However, the powertrain details have not been revealed yet as other details.
So, the most important thing currently is that if VW will launch the T-Cross in the Indian market. However, since the T-Cross is such an important product for the company, we can definitely expect the compact SUV to make its way to the Indian market soon and according to the reports in the market, the automaker is likely to launch the vehicle by 2020 in the country.
When launched in India, the VW T-Cross will rival the Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport, Jeep Renegade and the others in the segment. Also, VW is planning to launch 19 new SUVs globally by 2020 and looking at the plan the T-Cross is expected to be one of the prominent parts of the plan by VW.
