Japanese automaker Maruti Suzuki has confirmed the Solio MPV for the Indian market. The seven-seater Wagon R based MPV is expected to go under production from September 2018. The vehicle has already been spied testing on the Indian roads and the rumors in the market suggest that it is expected to go on sale in the country in November this year. The first glimpse of the 7-seater MPV was seen at the 2018 Auto Expo. However, Maruti Suzuki is yet to confirm the reports and the official launch date for the Solio in India.
In the Indian product portfolio on Maruti Suzuki, the upcoming Wagon R based MPV will be positioned below the Ertiga while it is sold as Suzuki Solio internationally. The MPV will come carrying the signature design elements of the MPVs. Though, it will be too much to expect an expansive features list on the vehicle in the country, but it will surely get some of the decent features on the top-spec version of the MPV. The expected features list includes Touchscreen Infotainment System, Automatic Climate Control, Electrically Adjustable ORVMs, Power Windows on all four doors and Reverse Parking Camera.
Mechanically, there is no confirmation regarding the powertrain of the upcoming Wagon R based MPV but we can expect it to offer a petrol engine that will be a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder motor which generates 65 BHP along with 91 Nm of peak torque. The car will get a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard while Maruti can also introduce the 5-speed AMT unit as option as well.
In terms of pricing, the five-seater Wagon R comes priced between Rs 3.5 lakh to Rs 5.5 Lakh in the country hence we can expect the prices of the 7-seater version to definitely cost more than this. The expected price bracket is between the range of Rs 4.0 lakh to Rs 6.0 lakh making it place in-between the Eco and the Ertiga in the Maruti Suzuki product line-up for India.
However, Maruti Suzuki is also preparing to launch the 2018 Wagon R hatchback in the country this year. Though, there is no official launch date for the hatch till now, but according to the automaker it will launch the hatchback before the launch of the 7-seater MPV in the country. Stay tuned to V3cars.com for further updates on the upcoming 2018 Maruti Suzuki Wagon R and the 7-seater MPV in the country.
