Mercedes-Benz is busy on several new projects and new-gen models. The German luxury auto behemoth is very much focused on electric models, as electrified cars are really what the future global auto market will be all about. Mercedes-Benz formed its new electric vehicle brand named ‘EQ’ recently and went ahead and teased the first product to come under the umbrella of the EQ brand name in March this year. Named as the Mercedes-Benz EQC, this all-new electric SUV would redefine the concept of electric vehicles with its exquisite luxury and power packed performance. The new upcoming Mercedes-Benz EQC electric crossover has been getting spied quite regularly since it got teased by its maker, and it has been spotted yet again very recently.
The Mercedes-Benz EQC has been spied in the most recent occasion, while the test mule was waiting at a traffic signal. The EQC electric SUV was first unveiled in its concept form at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, while it was also showcased at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo. The production version of this luxury electric SUV is expected to make its world debut in October this year, again at the Paris Motor Show 2018.
Going by the latest set of spy pics, it seems that the ne upcoming Mercedes-Benz EQC e-SUV has similar dimensions as that of the Mercedes GLB-Class SUV. However, the EQC will have a completely different new design language and it does appear to be much sleeker than the GLB. Being a fully electric vehicle, the EQC will not look like the other SUV models from the house of Mercedes-Benz, although it will still be unmistakably Mercedes with high futuristic styling quotient. The EQC doesn’t get the familiar Merc grille seen on models and flaunts bold and angular LED Daytime Running Lights. It also doesn’t have the boxy stance and has a smooth downward sloping roof that seamlessly integrates into the rear design. The overall silhouette of the e-crossover is smooth, sleek and flowy, while also being sharp and bold at the same time.
The EQC electric SUV has been based on Mercedes-Benz’s new Electric Vehicle Architecture platform that the company created to specifically underpin its future electric vehicle models. It will be manufactured at the company's new facility in Bremen. The new EQC SUV is claimed to be able to offer a punchy max power of 402 bhp which will be generated from its twin electric motors, while the top torque is expected to be a hammering 700 NM. The e-SUV’s electric drivetrain will draw its juice from a 70 kilowatt-hour battery system, which claims to offer a travel range of 500km on a single charge. As per Mercedes-Benz, the EQC can also do the 0-100kmph sprint in less than 5 seconds. So, it can be understood that the EQC will be one marvelous luxury electric SUV.
The Mercedes-Benz EQC will launch sometime in 2019 and will be locking its horns with the likes of the upcoming Jaguar I-Pace, BMW iX3, Audi E-Tron Quattro and Tesla Model Y.
