The introduction of the Jeep brand in India is probably the best decision that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles took in terms of its Indian operations. The iconic American SUV brand Jeep has a great fan following in India, and Jeep’s Italian owner is taking full advantage of it. Jeep after its initial Indian launch couldn’t make a mark in the market due to the highly expensive pricing, but this was changed after the launch of the first India-made Jeep model, the Compass. As the Fiat branded cars are not selling impressively in India, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is now working to repeat the success of the Jeep Compass by launching new products in the country by 2022.
Jeep India is reportedly busy working on a compact SUV model as well as a mid-sized three row SUV for the Indian car market. Jeep is thus, targeting the two popular segments of the Indian SUV market, namely the sub-4 meter and the mid-sized 7-seater segments, as it already has its popular Compass in the 5-seater compact SUV segment. The upcoming sub-4 meter compact SUV will be the smallest in the global Jeep lineup, thus it will be smaller than the Jeep Renegade.
Although this new Jeep subcompact will be going up against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and Tata Nexon, being a Jeep model with all the world famous qualities intact, it is expected to be more expensive. Yet, the new subcompact Jeep SUV will be more affordable than the Compass and the rumoured India-bound Renegade and thus, is expected to be aggressively priced.
Soon after the subcompact SUV, a premium 7-seater mid-sized Jeep SUV is expected to launch, which will be placed above the Wrangler in India. Currently, the Jeep India’s product portfolio comprises of only 4 products, namely the Compass, Wrangler, Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee SRT, with a price range of Rs. 15.26 lakhs to Rs. 1.07 crore.
The highly anticipated Renegade might not after all make it to India due to the many regulatory changes set to come to effect in India in a couple of years. However, we will certainly get the said new subcompact Jeep SUV.
We do think that like the Compass, the new upcoming subcompact Jeep SUV will also be a massive success in India. In fact in terms of volumes, it is likely to overtake the Compass owing to its cheapest price tag in the entire Jeep lineup. Moreover, as more and more premium hatchback and sedan buyers going for entry-level urban SUVs in India, Jeep’s new mini SUV should be a stellar success owing to its sub-4 meter city friendly dimensions and the patent quality and capability of the Jeep brand.
On the other hand, the mid-sized premium SUV will be intended to impress the luxury SUV buyers, as the Indian premium SUV market is also constantly growing. Hence, followed by the Compass’ success, Jeep is readying up to taste more success with its upcoming models.
Meanwhile, Jeep has already confirmed that the company is focused on keeping the Compass’ customer appeal fresh and thus, will launch new variants of the compact SUV in India in the coming months.
While we are looking forward to these two new Jeep products in India, we would surely love to get the Renegade as well.
Don’t you wish to get the Jeep Renegade to rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta in India?
