The Jeep Yuntu Concept made its world premiere at the 2017 Shanghai Motor Show. The Yuntu was initially thought to be a preview to only a China-specific model. However, post its showcase, speculations regarding the Yuntu’s arrival in the U.S began. The Yuntu is rumoured to be coming in its production version to the U.S, as a new Chrysler and it will be a 7-seater SUV model. Now, it is thought that the Yuntu could be coming as the Grand Wagoneer to the U.S. The latest speculations are based on the spy shots of the new Yuntu prototype.

As per several reports, the iconic American SUV brand has commenced testing the prototypes of its Yuntu, although there are no official details as yet. The spied three-row SUV prototype clearly flaunts a design which is similar to that of the Yuntu Concept. The overall silhouette, headlights and tail lights of the spotted prototype are all similar to that of the Yuntu.

As per the reports, the probable Jeep Yuntu prototype was caught testing alongside an elongated Grand Cherokee based test prototype, a Volvo XC90 plug-in hybrid and a Chrysler Pacifica minivan. This is clear that the Yuntu test mule is being tested with quite a few benchmarks to ensure that it offers great performance. The Yuntu Concept also promised to offer a plug-in hybrid SUV version, and this will happen for sure as it is being tested against the Volvo XC90 plug-in hybrid model.

The demands for 3-row SUV/crossovers are constantly increasing in the global markets, and thus, Jeep’s Yuntu Concept spawning a new large SUV for U.S and other similar markets is a very practical move. The Jeep Yuntu is essentially a family vehicle which is meant to offer the conveniences of both a family car and a hard-core SUV. By looking at the benchmarks that the model is being tested against, it is clear that Jeep wants to make its Yuntu truly worthy, as the market competition is really very tough. All the auto majors in the world are more than eager to churn out SUV and crossover models catering to the high demands.

The Jeep Yuntu Concept based new SUV model will be coming with narrow, sleek and long headlight enclosures and grille positioned under the bonnet. The test mule’s patent LED can also be spotted peaking from the camouflage. At the back, if closely seen, two oversized exhaust trims can be spotted which mask much smaller actual exhaust tips. On the whole, the test prototype looks to be very close to its production version.

Jeep has not revealed any details regarding the Yuntu heading to the U.S market, while China is definitely its target market. Nevertheless, the latest spy pictures suggest that the SUV is being tested near FCA's headquarters in Michigan. Considering all, after the Yuntu’s successful launch in China, the SUV is also expected to land up in U.S. It remains to be seen, if/when the Yuntu launches in the U.S, whether it gets badged as the Jeep Grand Wagoneer or a Chrysler.
