New Skoda Kodiaq GT Coupe preparing to launch in the global market

by Mahesh Yadav on Sunday, Dec 03 2017

Czech car maker Skoda introduced its first full-sized Kodiaq SUV towards the end of 2016. The new Skoda Kodiaq 7-seater SUV model has been also launched in the car market of India recently. According to the company’s new SUV plan, the Skoda Kodiaq was the first model to be introduced in the market, which was followed by the Skoda Karoq compact 5-seater SUV model. However, the Czech auto maker has revealed that it is witnessing good demands for sporty, coupe styled SUV models. Thus, Skoda will most probably introduce a coupe style variant of the Kodiaq in some car markets to begin with.

Czech car maker Skoda introduced its first full-sized Kodiaq SUV towards the end of 2016. The new Skoda Kodiaq 7-seater SUV model has been also launched in the car market of India recently. However, the Czech auto maker has revealed that it is witnessing good demands for sporty, coupe styled SUV models. Thus, Skoda will most probably introduce a coupe style variant of the Kodiaq in some car markets to begin with.

It has come to light that the planned new coupe styled Kodiaq model would be named as the Skoda Kodiaq GT. As per the latest reports, it is thought that the Volkswagen owned Czech company will be initially introducing the new Kodiaq GT model only in the Chinese market, which is understandable as it is the largest auto market in the world. However, it will probably not be a China exclusive model but rather a global one, and might also gets launched in other international markets as well in due course of time.

Skoda had earlier mentioned the concept of the Kodiaq GT in March this year. The primary change in the GT version will be the shape of its roofline, which will be more swooping and sloping towards its rear-end. This roofline change will result in a slight headroom reduction of the vehicle, while the boot space will also be affected. Thus, Skoda might even choose to offer the GT version in only in the Kodiaq 5-seater variant instead of its regular 7-seater configuration.

The news of the upcoming Skoda Kodiaq GT is pretty much confirmed, as the Kodiaq GT model name was clearly visible on the marketing presentation which was conducted at a Skoda event in China. Thus, for now the arrival of the Kodiaq GT is quite certain at least for the Chinese market.

When the car market of India is concerned, it is really too early to comment anything regarding the arrival of the Kodiaq GT in our shores. Skoda Auto India is currently busy working on the market establishment of the Kodiaq in the highly competitive Indian premium SUV segment. We know that the Karoq is already being planned for our market, but then again its arrival in India might depend on the markets demands of the Kodiaq in India. Nevertheless, if the Skoda Kodiaq does find enough success in the Indian market, then the Czech company would definitely consider bringing in the Kodiaq GT as well, or so we can hope.

If at all the Skoda Kodiaq GT launches in India, then it will be one of the first coupe-style SUV models apart from the already existing but more premium models which include the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe, the Mercedes GLE Coupe and the BMW X6.

As per the reports, the new Skoda Kodiaq GT is likely to have its world premiere sometime in 2019.
