The all new Mercedes-Benz G-Class has got spied again while the test prototype was busy testing the roads. This time around, the new G-Class prototype that got caught by the spy shutterbug showed very thin veils to hide its design changes. This offered the opportunity to get a closer look at what the new avatar of the highly popular luxury SUV looks like and how much it differs from the preceding model.

The next generation Mercedes-Benz G-Class is all set to launch in 2018. The German luxury auto major has completely overhauled the luxury SUV, which is also lovingly known as the G-Wagen. We already know that the all new G-Class has grown a bit; it will be wider and offer a roomier cabin.

The G-Class, as it will get comprehensive updates, will also be offer better road driving experience than its predecessor. However, assuring the G-Class aficionados, the boss of communications for Mercedes-Benz, David McCarthy has said not to worry and that the vehicle will continue to be a true off-roader. This simply means that while the next-gen G-Class will remain a hard-core off-roader, it will also focus on offering enhanced on-road experience to be an absolute all-rounder of a luxury SUV.

McCarthy has also revealed that the SUV will come with an alluring cabin. The vehicle is expected to attract new buyers because of the upgrades that it gets on the inside, he added by saying on the sidelines of the launch ceremony of the new Mercedes-AMG GLC63.

He further spoke about the new avatar of the G-Class by saying that when an onlooker sees the new G-Wagen’s design, it is obvious that it is still a G-Wagen. However, the vehicle has quite an unusual niche, so buyers kind of have a polarized view for it. It has a class of its own, and people won’t go for it if they don’t specifically want a G-Class. It is not like you were going to have a GLS63, but instead settled down a G63. For the G-Class it is very different. The SUV does have potential sales growth, but it is also very limited, he added.

McCarthy further said that as far as drive experience is concerned, the all new G-Class will be more contemporary and evolved, but will be hanging on to its roots. It will provide improved drive, but it won’t lose any of its off-road ability. He said that he believes that the model has more to offer, and he believes that it will be a better vehicle on-road.

As per the latest spy images that caught the next-gen G-Class with minimal veils, it looks like its exterior design changes are very subtle. The side profile of the new avatar is likely to be largely same as the ongoing model, with similar squared off windows. However, it is expected to be loaded with new upgrades, features and techs on the inside.

The all new Mercedes-Benz G-Class luxury SUV is expected to hit the global markets by mid-2018.
