Next generation Renault Duster could take some time to come to India

The Renault Duster compact SUV, which is also known as the Dacia Duster in the international markets is a very popular model and hence, an important global product for the French car maker. Renault sells the Duster through its low-cost brand Dacia in some international markets, while in India it is sold under its own brand. The Renault Duster is a very successful model in the Indian car market. However, the Duster has been around in India for quite some time now and with the advent of newer models, its sales rates have been affected. Although Renault has been updating the Duster from time to time, the arrival of the all new Duster will be really helpful to boost its sales.

Although Renault has been updating the Duster from time to time, the arrival of the all new Duster will be really helpful to boost its sales.

The new generation Renault/Dacia Duster SUV recently had its world premiere at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show in the month of September. However, as per the recent reports, the new generation Duster would take some time before it finally hits the car market of India. As per the speculations, the new Renault Duster was supposed to hit the car market of India sometime around the first half of next year. However, now it is thought that there will be some more time before the Indian market actually gets the second generation model of the Duster compact SUV.

The reason behind the reported delayed arrival of the all new Renault Duster in the Indian market is said to be the positioning of the new Captur SUV. Renault has already unveiled the Captur premium compact SUV in India, which will soon launch in the market and will be placed just above the current-gen Duster.

Renault is expected to face a problem with launching the new generation Duster in India, which is more stylish and improved than the outgoing model. The new-gen Duster might lead to a scenario of appearing closely placed to the Captur in India. In that case, Renault will have two similar SUV models with similar pricing and that would lead to the cannibalization of these products in India. Moreover, if the all new Duster is offered as a bit cheaper offering in India, the Captur might not be successful here at all, as the new Duster with its new style and capabilities might steal the show with its already established nameplate.

Renault would want to give some time to the new Captur to gain some establishment in India, at least for about a year. Thus, the all new Renault Duster might not come to India until 2019, or so it seems now.

The second generation Duster is built on the same platform as its predecessor and retains the dimensions and the tough SUV stance. Renault has endowed the new-gen model with an evolutionary design language to make it look more aggressive. The SUV flaunts a stylized wider new grille, new headlights with LED DRLs and new bonnet for a totally new face. Its tail lights have been repositioned to the corners, while the squared wheel arches and the proper SUV stance have been retained.

The new-gen Duster gets improved interior as well with better quality materials, while a more upright, forward leaning windscreen enhances space. There are automatic headlights and an optional multi-view camera among other changes, while the basic cabin layout has been retained.
