It’s the first car from Renault in the sub-compact SUV segment. The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, and Mahindra XUV300 are the leader in the segment. While the Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon and Honda WR-V are other strong players.
The competition is stiffest in the sub-4m SUV segment but Renault could pull another rabbit out of the hat as they did with the Triber and Kwid. Both of these cars have managed to carve out space for themselves. The Kwid’s styling and the Triber’s price tag have made them notable contenders in their respective segments.
The Renault HBC will share the platform with the Triber. So, we can expect it to be as spacious as the Triber and come with reclining and sliding rear seats. We can also expect the Renault HBC to have more such features to set it apart from the competition.
Pricing is going to play a critical role in the success of this car and we can count on Renault to impress us in this regard. If the HBC carries over the Triber’s 1.0-litre petrol engine, then we can expect its prices to be in line with those of a premium hatchback like the Maruti Baleno or Hyundai i20. If it undercuts the competition and has a starting price of Rs. 5.5 lakh, then it could be a game-changer.
If the new Kwid and triber are anything to go by, then we can assume the upcoming Renault HBC compact SUV will also have great styling, long list of features and an aggressive price tag.
