Mahindra & Mahindra is planning the production of their upcoming SUV XUV Aero soon. The vehicle was introduced as a design study concept at the 2016 Auto Expo. According to the manufacturer, they have received good response and customer interest for the SUV Coupe design and hence they decided to consider it for production. However, the rumors in the market say that Mahindra has already started the testing process for the vehicle before sending into production.

Under the hood, the Mahindra XUV Aero concept was introduced with Mahindra’s 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine along with a two-stage turbo unit. The engine has the capacity to produce maximum power around 209bhp paired to a 6-speed manual as well as automatic transmission and four drive modes - Race, Off-road, Street and Sport. All these driving modes are likely to be carried over to the production model as well. However, Mahindra might introduce the SUV with an upgraded XUV500 engine, the upcoming retuned 2.2-litre engine expected to produce max power around 168bhp and peak torque between 350-360Nm. The rumors also indicate that the upcoming Mahindra XUV Aero will also get a powerful all-electric powertrain with a salubrious range and power compared to the automaker’s current flock of EVs. The EV part will be taken complete care by Mahindra Electric, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mahindra & Mahindra Group.

Based on Mahindra XUV500, the Mahindra XUV Aero concept sports similar styling and the concept was conceptualized by Mahindra's design studio in Mumbai. The Aero concept gets plunged roofline and suicide doors. While the front profile is similar to the XUV500, rear gets inspired from the Ford Mustang with boxy tailgate design, LED taillights and a sporty rear bumper. We can expect the production model to be similar as the concept expect for the suicide doors.

Like the exterior and styling, the interior of the concept was also inspired by the Mahindra XUV500. While the centre console offered a larger Tesla- and Volvo-like vertical touchscreen display, it also got new flat-bottom steering wheel and digital instrument cluster. However, we can expect some additional features from XUV500 apart from the above mentioned concept features to add to the highlight of the vehicle. Also, the XUV Aero will be a five-seater as compared to the seven-seater Mahindra XUV500.

To be positioned above XUV500, the XUV Aero is likely to be manufactured at Mahindra’s Chakan facility. Also, XUV Aero gets its naming inspiration from the SUV’s aerodynamic styling. However, if the manufacturer is preparing to launch the XUV Aero in near future, then we will have to wait more for the facelift version of Mahindra’s best-selling XUV500. Also, we might see some XUV Aero borrowed features with the XUV500 facelift. Although, there is no official confirmation regarding the vehicle going in to production till date and we might get the confirmed details regarding the Mahindra XUV Aero by 2018 Auto Expo. Till then, stay tuned to V3cars.com for any confirmation or further updates regarding the XUV Aero.
