Japanese automaker Maruti Suzuki is working on the Ciaz facelift. The car has been spied testing in India for the first time. This will be the first major update for the sedan since its launch in 2014 and is likely to be launched in 2018 with cosmic as well as mechanical updates. However, the car was spied camouflaged; hence it reveals few details only.

In terms of expected changes, the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Ciaz facelift will get new alloy wheels along with redesigned front and rear bumpers and an updated grille. As the automaker launched the 2018 Alivio Pro (Ciaz facelift) in China with cosmetic updates to the front and rear section, the Indian version is expected to be different as compared to the Chinese variant. Not only the exterior, but the interior will also get changes and upgrades such as all-black interiors, new touch-screen head unit, a new instrument cluster with updated MID and new fabric upholstery.

Currently, the outgoing model comes powered by Fiat soueced a 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel unit. The mill produces 89 BHP of power and 200 Nm of torque that makes it quite weak in the segment to compete with other cars. Since, Maruti Suzuki has to pay hefty royalties to Fiat, which results in reduced profits for the company. Hence, to remain in the competition, Maruti Suzuki is all set to replace the 1.3 unit with an all-new diesel engine.

According to the reports going on in the market, Maruti Suzuki is testing the all-new 1.5-litre diesel engine on the Ciaz facelift and the upcoming Maruti Ertiga Crossover MPV as well. The new 1.5-litre diesel engine is developed in-house by Maruti in collaboration with Suzuki. However, the automaker has not yet revealed the specifications of the engine; we can expect it to churn out above 100 BHP of maximum power and is likely to come mated to either a 5-speed or a 6-speed manual transmission along with a 5-speed CVT automatic gearbox.

This new 1.5 litre diesel engine is not going to be limited to the Ciaz facelift and Maruti Ertiga Crossover MPV only but the automaker has plans to introduce the same engine with Ertiga facelift, new S-Cross and the Vitara Brezza facelift as well. What is more interesting to know is that the engine will be available in different tunes with these models in order to enhance the performance of the car as well as to compete with cars such as  Honda City, Volkswagen Vento, Hyundai Verna and the Skoda Rapid. According to the reports, Maruti Suzuki is also said to be developing an all-new 1.5-litre petrol engine that will replace the 1.4-litre K-series petrol unit.

Although, the launch details have not been revealed yet, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz facelift is likely to make its debut at the 2018 Auto Expo before launch. Ciaz has been a constant seller for Maruti since its launch and consistently, the automaker has been selling around 5000-6500 units every month. Hence, the facelifted Ciaz with mechanical and cosmic up-gradation will definitely help in keeping its position strong among the C-segment cars.
