MarutI Suzuki Jimny, the name we heard a couple of years back, is again in the news. Earlier, there were speculations regarding the vehicle coming to India, however, nothing got finalized then and now the spied image of the Suzuki Jimny has been going all over the internet. We can expect the Maruti Suzuki Jimny to make its international debut at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show however, earlier the all-new Jimny was expected to make its global debut at the 2017 Tokyo motor show but it didn’t happen.
The spy shots show the Maruti Suzuki Jimny under production at the factory floor. While one photo shows the new Jimny’s body shell, another image shows the final product. Although, it’s not clear when the pictures have been clicked but looking at the images, it might be possible to be clicked in the trial production phase.
Under the hood, the new Jimny will get a range of engines including a 660cc turbo-petrol, the 1.0-litre Boosterjet petrol and a 1.2-litre Dual-jet petrol motor. However, all the engines confirmed till now ae petrol motors and nothing is known as yet on a diesel option to be offered with the vehicle. Transmission duties will be performed by both manual as well as automatic gearbox options.
The off-roader Jimny, being true to its roots will come underpinned by a ladder- frame chassis and will be offered with four-wheel drive. Following the footsteps of previous Jimny models, the new model will also have a small wheelbase to provide it excellent approach, departure and ramp break-over angles. Although, till now only a three-door hard-top version has been seen, but a larger five-door model and soft-top variants are also expected in the near future.
In terms of looks, the 2018 Jimny gets a squared-outlook and the block silhouette reminds of the Mercedes-Benz G-class. The overall styling is simple with retro borderline with round headlights and large angular windows. Also, the five-slat grille is quite similar to the current Jimny’s grille; it will also get a tailgate-mounted spare wheel as well. At the interior, the spy images show that the Jimny's cabin will be quite modern with a touchscreen infotainment system as well as automatic climate control. Apart from these, there will be a lot of parts inside shared with other Suzuki models.
According to the reports in the market, the 2018 Maruti Suzuki Jimny is likely to replace the Gypsy in the Indian market. Gypsy is quite a popular off-roader in the country as well as the Indian armed forces. However, there is no such official confirmation by the manufacturer till date. Internationally, the SUV is expected to go on sale by April 2018. According to the reports, it will be launched in the UK only in 2019. We’ll have to wait till the automaker makes any announcements regarding the Jimny coming to India and other developments. Till then, stay tuned to V3cars.com for further updates on the 2018 Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
